Pass me the smelling salts pronto.

Have they finally realised ignoring sex, especially this close to IWD will play badly.

How did they get this past the censors?

Will they be forced to retract and apologise?

Watch this space!

Good to see.

But why do they need a new law to allow teachers to act flexibly and sensitively? Genuine question.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/03/2020 16:45

I guess they can't tie it in with IWD otherwise, but it's encouraging

First comment is crying transphobia 🙄

noblegiraffe · 03/03/2020 16:50

If they want a law to let kids go to the toilets in lessons (this is perfectly allowable at the moment), perhaps they could follow it up with some funding to make school toilets less horrific?

I'm not sure tbh. I assume because currently it's not applied evenly across all schools or teaching staff. Might work better as an Ofsted requirement or similar.

I'm still reeling at the idea the Lib Dems know what a girl is. Grin

I think that account might be satire. Hard to know these days.

Not really - more of a windup I suspect. A quick look at that person’s twitter feed shows they’re not a member of the Trans Taliban - far too many retweets of Spiked articles and Titania tweets.

Layla Moran's article
inews.co.uk/opinion/to-truly-tackle-period-stigma-school-children-have-be-able-to-use-toilets-in-lesson-time-2042390

The examples are horrifying - it does sound like some kind of guidance is required if girls are being made to sit through lessons in bloodied clothing.
And yes, nice to see Layla Moran - of all people - writing about this without wokey jargon.

SarahTancredi · 03/03/2020 16:57

As per one of the tweets...no good if the toilets are mixed sex. They need single sex toilets and adequate sanitary facilities.

WrathofFaeKlopp · 03/03/2020 16:58

This new law will be needed to plug the gaping hole in gender neutral toilets.

OvaHere · 03/03/2020 17:00

Yes. Good article that tackles the issue without obfuscation.

Wonders never cease.

Agreed. Perhaps they could do some joined up thinking with Lord Lucas on this.

Yes I would have thought guidance would be the normal approach to something like this.

Bloody amazing!

Yeah, I'm really sceptical that they are true; but even if they are, 3 examples of dumbassery over two years is not something which needs a law to fix.

This is an idiotic response to a non-problem. You don't need guidance from the DfE and an act of parliament to handle 'child asks to go to the loo'.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 03/03/2020 22:49

Oh dear, has there been an outbreak of reality? Someone will be getting a telling off for that.
