Really interesting video

I was a bit unsure about this for a long time but now I think I just couldn’t articulate myself.

Sorry if it’s been posted already, I did check and can’t see it

OP posts:
Danceswithwarthogs · 19/02/2020 12:35

I’m sure this has been said in far more articulate ways.... but until recently I thought drag seemed to be considered a bit outdated in mainstream media and possibly insensitive to genuine transwomen (Mrs browns boys makes me feel slightly uneasy in that the main joke is the woman is actually a man.... not a trans character)

is this not also a general backwards step - reinforcing out-dated gender stereotypes. Teaching children that wearing high heels, a dress and makeup make you a woman, that a woman who doesn’t go in for this is less of a woman? That women are there to be ogled and objectified? That outward appearances count more than what’s on the inside and suggesting that girls not fussed about makeup and clothes are actually boys in the wrong body?

AutumnRose1 · 19/02/2020 12:36

Dances yes, all of what is being taught around gender is a step backwards.

OP posts:
Danceswithwarthogs · 19/02/2020 12:37

(I wonder if Justin fletcher has opinions on the subject? )

Siameasy · 19/02/2020 13:01

Someone on another thread said TRAs are quite keen to work in libraries so they can infiltrate
My library in a fairly deprived area has a few questionable books about gender. One book saying that some people aren’t male or female
I don’t get how it’s ok to show things as fact-eg there are books about Christianity or Islam but I don’t have to agree that Jesus is actually risen

SarahTancredi · 19/02/2020 13:06

Ironically employees are fired or not given an interview review based on their social media habits.

Yet add the LGBT to their names and bingo nothing else matters..

Danceswithwarthogs · 19/02/2020 13:37

Well if biological sex (chomosomes and natal phenotype) doesn’t a woman make, neither anatomy, endogenous hormones, life experience growing up/living as a woman in your culture, nor female physical experience... are we only left with women’s clothes, makeup and a Shania Twain song?

How do any of us define what a woman is, or avoid ever ‘misgendering’ someone, let along explain this to children?

The drag queens only make this message more confused, we’re not asking kids to listen to stories read by diverse people being their authentic selves, but sexualised, fake characters, not dissimilar to clowns... in the interest of inclusivity and acceptance, isn’t it better just to accept people for who they are without making the whole thing into a pantomime?

ahumanfemale · 19/02/2020 14:35

This video also highlights how the backlash is going to come. The Right will come down harshly on the LG&B because of things like this. Libraries will have books removed. Librarians in the US stood up to the government about tracking which users used certain books following 9-11 and rightly so. But here they'll be standing up to a government having actually caused the problem themselves.

Another thing this shows clearly is that DQST is only promoting a sexualised aspect of LGBT. Not one of my LGB friends (and I'm in that category too) would ever consider sexualised behaviour around children. The problem with drag is that it is ONLY sexualised. What does an asexual DQ look like?!

But it can be all made clearer by women dressing up in similar ways to the DQ and seeing if they'd have parents bringing their kids to story time with them. Sexualised women a) don't usually want to be around kids and b) wouldn't be allowed. A primary school teacher dressing like a drag queen would be disciplined. But it's ok for men.

hoodathunkit · 19/02/2020 14:45

Thanks OP, I do love Sonia.

really?

What do you make of her promotion of consiiracy theories regarding satanic ritual abuse as part of alleged VIP paedophile rings?

hoodathunkit · 19/02/2020 14:54

I am concerned about Poulton’s history of promoting discredited and debunked narratives about satanic ritual abuse and VIP paedophile rings

for example, a video titled Paedophiles in Parliament Poulton makes a number of controversial allegations about these alleged paedophile rings.

She is at least upfront about the fact that some of the people she gives credence to have been discredited and debunked (and in some instances prosecuted) but she claims that some may be victims of malicious prosecutions and she says “I make no judgments about these people but I include them because they have been part of the narrative of paedophiles in parliament since 2012”.

Among the “whistleblowers” Poulton gives credence to in her video are

at 6.35

Andrea Davison, notorious convicted fraudster linked to multiple boiler room scams. A skilled document forger with associations to multiple OC networks internationally Davison claims to be an intelligence agent and spy.

Evidential links, there are plenty more available via search engines
www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/felinheli-woman-jailed-document-frauds-2056080

archive.is/kZtpY

That's just the first few minutes of her "documentary" which can be seen here

As for drag queen story time I have my own concerns. I will watch Poulson's video before commenting on it. It may be very good indeed but that does not detract from her promotion of highly dubious people and convicted criminals as reputable sources

hoodathunkit · 19/02/2020 15:00

as an aside to Poulton I would like to share some concerns about a Devon entertainment festival Into the Mix

The 2019 festival featured a drag queen called Alex A aka Alex Ambigious

A drag queen storyteller from Bristol based 'Drag Queen Story Time' will perform in the family area at the event to share stories of inclusivity and raise awareness of accepting difference. They will also give a short talk in our spoken word area.

Their message of inclusivity, difference, celebration and fun connect with the aims of Into The Mix. Drag Queen Story Time aim to capture the imagination and fun of the gender fluidity of childhood, while giving children glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.

By providing spaces in which kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions, Drag Queen Story Time allows children to imagine the world in which people can present as they wish. Where dress up is real and LGBTQ identities are celebrated.

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200212081335/intothemix.org.uk/alex-ambiguous" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200212081335/intothemix.org.uk/alex-ambiguous

I have supported lesbian, gay, bisexual and gender non-conforming people all my adult life, however I am uncomfortable about drag queens being seen as role models for children.

There is more about this festival that concerns me I will share in my next post

JellySlice · 19/02/2020 15:35

A drag queen storyteller from Bristol based 'Drag Queen Story Time' will perform in the family area at the event to share stories of inclusivity and raise awareness of accepting difference.

What have drag queens got to do with inclusivity and accepting difference? They are simply performers. Why not have Circus Clown Story Time or Pole Dancer Story Time?

To share stories of inclusivity and raise awareness of accepting difference, you need genuinely diverse story tellers, not story tellers who merely perform diversity. Elderly storytellers, disabled storytellers, masculine female storytellers, feminine male storytellers, camp storytellers, female firefighter storytellers, storytellers of BAME origin, storytellers in different languages/accents/regional accents, hijab-wearing storytellers, peyes/sheitl-wearing storytellers (ie ultra-Orthodox Jews). The options are endless.

But, no, teach children lies in the name of diversity and inclusivity, without actually demonstrating it.

hoodathunkit · 19/02/2020 15:56

The festival features a "wellness" area complete with workshops

WELLBEING WORKSHOPS
Bollywood Dancing
Gong Bath
Tai Chi
Grounding/mindfulness
Access bars
Bose Cultural Academy Drumming
Yoga

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200212075539/intothemix.org.uk/2019-line-up-1/2019-line-up" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200212075539/intothemix.org.uk/2019-line-up-1/2019-line-up

One thing that caused me alarm on that list is Access Bars

another is the gong bath, as these, while not harmful in themselves, are often run by tantric and kundalini yoga cults (discover more about them on the cuddle parties and naked yoga thread on mumsnet)

Here's an interesting and disturbing article (trigger warning) about Gary Douglas, the creator of Access Bars aka Access Consciousness aka Running Bars

(According to this piece he believes that "young children are incredibly sexy" and developed Access Consciousness after immersion in Scientology)

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200115094602/www.houstonpress.com/news/whats-behind-gary-douglass-scientology-knockoff-6596177" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200115094602/www.houstonpress.com/news/whats-behind-gary-douglass-scientology-knockoff-6596177

Things get more interesting

Here is the person who organises the Into the Mix festival, Viktoria Guerin an Access Counsciouness practitioner and advertised as such on the Access Consciousness website

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200219151747/www.accessconsciousness.com/fi/public-profiles/viktoria-guerin/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200219151747/www.accessconsciousness.com/fi/public-profiles/viktoria-guerin/

her facebook page is here
<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200219152213/www.facebook.com/ViktoriaGuerinPage/about/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200219152213/www.facebook.com/ViktoriaGuerinPage/about/

From her personal website

"How did I get so lucky to be invited to organize brand new Torbay festival Into The Mix? This festival brings diverse people and communities together to celebrate through music, dance, crafts, food, spoken word, performance, participation, wellbeing, stalls and more!

I will be also offering Access Bars taster session during this event. Come to get your bars run!

What if this event can be too much fun to attend?

INTO THE MIX at Torre Abbey grounds, Torquay
Saturday 6 July 2019
10.30am – 5.30pm
FREE for everyone!

Come and join us for the day of fun, laughter and joy. Who would not want some of that?

Viktoria Guerin does not offer medical advice and makes no claims, promises or guarantees. She neither diagnoses nor treats specific health challenges. You are solely responsible for your own medical care and treatments."

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200219152700/viktoriaguerin.com/into-the-mix/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200219152700/viktoriaguerin.com/into-the-mix/

Now, obviously, while Ms Guerin is an Access Consciousness / Access Bars / Running Bars practitioner this does not mean that she shares the beliefs of her mentor that "young children are incredibly sexy".

I am concerned that, while Guerin may be well meaning (it is not possible for me to determine her intentions) multiple sources are ringing alarm bells about Access Consciousness having cultic elements

So I looked a little more into the Into the Mix Festival, which has a complete programme page here

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20200212082217/intothemix.org.uk/2019-line-up-1/2019-programme" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20200212082217/intothemix.org.uk/2019-line-up-1/2019-programme

If you scroll down you will see that the marketplace includes stalls from an extremely diverse range of organisations including

GB Access Consciousness
Torbay Theosophical Group
Intercom Trust
The Office of the Police Crime Comissioner, Devon and Cornwall Police Diverse Communities Team
NHS Torbay and South Devon Clinical Comissioning Group

There are other organisations of interest but what concerns me is the mix and blend of statutory / equalities organisations with organisations like Access Consciousness and the Torbay Theosophical Group

Things get more interesting when you check out the section in which organisations who have provided support and funding for the festival are thanked by name

thanks are extended to

The Office of the Police Crime Comissioner for Devon and Cornwall
South Devon and Torbay Clinical Comissioning Group
Devon and Cornwall Police Diverse Communities Team
Plymouth and Devon Radical Equalities Council

other groups, but of special interst to me is....

Torbay Women's Circle, an organisation that will be of significant interest to readers who found the cuddle parties and naked yoga thread of interest

I was impressed with Sonia Poulton's DQST video and unfamiliar with her work. So I watched her McCann and Paedophiles in Parliament videos Shock

They both have kernels of good investigative journalism IMO. But wow, so much unevidenced speculation and questionable sources!

The DQST piece is shorter and pushing at an open door. Most people readily recognise the inappropriateness of sexualised entertainment for children. I think it stands well on its own.

HDDD · 19/02/2020 16:39

I thought that video was all over the shop but that trans child Desmond element was disturbing to say the least

locallibrarylover · 20/02/2020 23:41

My local library, in an extremely unwoke area, is doing 'Story Time with Mama G', and describes her as a Panto Dame reading stories about being who you are and loving who you want.

It's the same thing, right?

LangClegsInSpace · 21/02/2020 00:09

Mama G is the one who teaches little children how to twerk.

Nothing to see here.

BlueHarry · 21/02/2020 01:24

www.newhamrecorder.co.uk/news/drag-queen-story-time-event-trolled-on-twitter-1-6508202

This is near where I grew up, my local library. The tweets quoted in the article are asking reasonable questions... I'm not quite sure why they are cited as the article is about twitter abuse.

locallibrarylover · 21/02/2020 08:35

I'm wondering whether to complain about this. I'll be away when it happens so I can't go and see for myself.

jadefinch · 22/02/2020 12:04

Outstanding documentary. The stuff about Rochdale is staggering, particularly when you consider that the council has issued two apologies in the last few years for failing children who were sexually abused.

I think anyone who works with children who posts sexual content on their website or social media pages is abusing children, as those children can easily find them via Google. One of Aimee Challenor's colleagues at Prism is a primary school teacher and his Instagram page contains images of him naked bar a Pride flag around his genitalia and has comments about 'fingering' other men. Totally inappropriate and it would be nice if the authorities could objectively see how confusing this is for children instead of banging on about diversity.

hoodathunkit · 27/06/2020 10:57

They both have kernels of good investigative journalism IMO. But wow, so much unevidenced speculation and questionable sources!

Dangerous conspiracy theorists usually mix kernels of truth with outrageous lies and misinformation and Sonia Poulton is not exception to this.

I wonder how she feels about the latest developments in the McCann case?

For me Poulton is a dangerous person with multiple links to other dangerous people promoting extremely harmful conspiracy theories.

She recently uploaded a video titled "UK Institutional Child Abuse is Widespread" in which she named 2 vulnerable children whose identity was protected by a court order.

I am extremely familiar with the case relating to the children. Interested readers can read about it here
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/11483750/Evil-mother-tortured-children-into-telling-police-their-father-was-leader-of-Satanic-sex-cult.html

In the video Poulson named the 2 children an in doing so broke the law and put the children's safety in danger from the tidal wave of batshit conspiracy theorists who continue to try to locate them and "liberate them from the clutches of a satanic cult" (kidnap them from their father).

I reported Poulson's video to the police. It has since been removed.

While I agree that it is possible to ally oneself with others on single issues when one disagrees on other issues I cannot stomach allying myself with Poulson.

He long time collaborative efforts with con men and women and batshit conspiracy theorists as well as her record of endangering vulnerable children means that I will never consider her to be an ally.
