Judge warns deed poll name change could out trans people

Can't find it on the D Telegraph on line but today's print version reports that changing your name by deed poll could out trans people.

Master Victoria McCloud said the name change is very public because old and new names are published on the internet via notice in the London Gazette, so the process "needs close attention to adhere to modern diversity standards."

Here's the interesting bit.....the judge, Victoria McCloud, is guess what? An M to F trans person.

The D Tel reports that in 2010 Master McCloud "became the youngest ever Queen's Bench Master and only the second woman to do so." Second woman? Hmm

Sounds a bit like the report a while back about the first "woman" to enter the infantry in the army.....

A rolling programme of female erasure.

The D Tel today also has a feature by Celia Walden, following on Labour's ludicrous trans pledge "I suspect we have yet to reach peak gender insanity".

And there's absolutely nothing that would make one see that a person might be MTF or vice versa.

Absolutely nothing at all.

Why is it controversial?

My male name was Joe, now I am Daphne. It changed in whichever year.

If you apply the secrecy aspect to any other name change - maiden names, professional names or whatever - it immediately looks like the person has something to hide. Which raises suspicions. Be trans-out, and be proud of where you came from.

Otherwise your life Cv will have a big gap at the beginning.

You don’t have to use an enrolled deed poll though? Which obviously bypasses the London gazette.

Indeed. So, one has to wonder why this apparently knowledgeable judge is making a song and dance about it......

I’ve found the article online. But I don’t subscribe to the DT. The judge is making an issue of it because she’s trans, no? As others have said, just keep it private rather than enrolling the name change.

Of course. Sorry sarcasm doesn't come across very well in writing Grin

So - we ought to allow people change their name and identity so that they just fall off all records? So that's work records, healthcare records, pensions, criminal records...

A bit like witness protection then? Shame people trying to escape a violent and threatening ex can't just do that then.

What's in a name? I present Gareth Peirce (woman lawyer, always has been, still is, don't think she is planning to change). I also present Doris Miller (US Navy hero -born male, lived and died male - just had weird parents I guess).
