OJ and the art of timing

Squealer's latest piece is an attempt to rebuff the argument that one of the reasons Labour lost is that they abandoned their traditional support in favour of the Woke:

'Labour’s historic mission – however inconsistent it has sometimes been – needs restating: to advance the interests of working people and to combat oppression against women and minorities'.

I take it this was written before a pledge was adopted that seemed to plant women firmly in the 'oppressor' camp and ruined Owen's piece.

combat oppression against women

None so blind as them that won't see.

LynnSchmob · 13/02/2020 17:09

His Sterling advice for the Labour Party has worked so well so far 🤦‍♀️

Couldn’t be bothered to read all of little OJ’s bleating, but found interesting stuff to look at...

Is it my imagination or does it look like an a older chap and an Asian chap have been photoshopped into the Pride photo?

And the featured topical article in the little box to the left contains a TWO YEAR OLD article.

combat oppression against women

He means males who identify as women. He doesn't really like women, or women having conversations or spaces away from males. Only nasty, oppressive women want space away from natal males.

Yes, that does look photoshopped DuLang - but why? - to make it look more diverse (lol!) Grin

This is just his usual wrong side of history piece, as usual he cannot make an argument for GRA reform so he just blathers on about young people being more socially progressive than boring old people.

Floisme · 13/02/2020 17:50

I've quoted this before but I can't read that piece without recalling Janice Turner's description of OJ and Ash Sarkar looking like teenagers who'd burned down the family home as the election results came in.

"Boring old people"

"Boomers"

If they're lucky, they'll get old one day too.

I'm Generation X - the best Grin

Does that make me a "Karen" ?

Gay rights were never won by self righteous sermons about people being on the wrong side of history. They were won by people taking the argument to bigots, making the point that nobody else had anything to lose by accepting that gays should have the same rights as straight people. Homosexuals had a different age of consent, they could not be married and faced other obstacles such as Clause 28. What similar legal discriminations do trans people face???? Absolutely none. Trans rights is about changing the legal definitions of gender and this does effect everyone else particularly women.

DuLANGMondeFOREVER so right about the photoshopping!

I guess they wanted to scream Diversity! Inclusive!
To avoid looking like wankers, as far as the eye can see

ScrimshawTheSecond · 13/02/2020 18:25

I don't know that that's photoshopping - looks more like depth of field and midground focus.

FTFOTFVille · 13/02/2020 18:42

I do this stuff, it is photoshopping

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 13/02/2020 19:30

I’ve only looked at it with my middle aged eyes on a phone but it does look like shopping, doesn’t it?

Wonder if the original photo had a couple of adult babies in the foreground? Would be somewhat appropriate for a li’l O piece Grin

FTFOTFVille · 13/02/2020 19:33

Look at the connection from the Asian's ear to the old man's hat. No question, I think. This has been a capture (as in, lasso), not a clone.

FTFOTFVille · 13/02/2020 19:33

In the close-up, obvs

StillWeRise · 13/02/2020 19:34

I don't think it's a single photo, I think it's a kind of montage

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 13/02/2020 19:49

I found video footage of the location (Charing Cross) that shows the three most prominent girls in the Guardian image.

www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/video/girls-with-rainbow-flags-by-charing-cross-underground-news-footage/1160517913

It must be loads of images shopped together, but why would you put those two chaps in such a prominent spot? If it was an idealised ‘spirit of pride’ collage type image you’d pick some especially colourful/fun/attractive people for that spot, surely? And do the photoshopping a bit more elegantly!

Anyway, not Jones’ fault, he won’t have any input on photos used and my googling shows the Guardian already used that image for a different article back in September.

Just goes to show, you can’t trust anything the Guardian publishes these days!

Owen is a professional troll (loving the squeeler nickname btw)

He got famous with a book pointing out the bloody obvious, ironically how intollerent and prejudiced the liberal left are.

He markets himself as a leftist but makes his living by providing cover for what has now become the premier neoliberal propaganda rag.
And maintains his relevence by tweeting incendury statements that he never answers to.
The guy is a has been and the sooner everyone realised he is irrelevent the better
