Excellent thread. This is the first tweet.

A thread. Should we give puberty blockers to kids? A recently published study says YES or so it's reported. Apparently it will stop some kids committing suicide. But how reliable is the evidence? Come on a journey into science and how it's reported.

t.co/iLoRnJLZjT?amp=1 Link to someone's ThreadReader version, which shows all the tweets as a continuous narrative.

He's a film maker who has worked on Horizon. If only somebody would commission him to make a film about this.

Yep - And the other one parroted everywhere - 48% of trans young people attempt suicide. This is based on an actual figure of 13/27 (48%) of self selected trans young people stating suicidal ideation. For the individual and their families this is really sad and I hope they get the help/support they need.

However, the subjective experiences of 13 self selected individuals is not an evidence base to scare/emotionally blackmail/gaslight/guilt trip young people/parents/ society to force children through affirmation, experimentation and medicalisation.

Important to note that the young people chosen for puberty blockers were those who had other mental health problems 'under control' BUT-
"Those who took puberty blockers were less mentally troubled to begin with yet end up with some suicide ideation stats (such as attempting in the last year) that are worse than those who didn't get them."

Amen to that!

Michael Biggs’ paper on the “Tavistock experiment” is also a good read on puberty blockers.

I tried to comment on the article in the i news where they have a write up of the report praising it but needless to say they dont allow comments. (They are still writing articles about Jess Phillips being anti trans because she tweeted support for WPUK - they seem totally captured.)

Great thread, I will analyse the paper itself to make sure it stacks up but reads like it does.
