Caroline writes some very good articles on the issue of sex and gender, this is one of the best today.

Maintaining the integrity of the census is vital for service provision planning for all sections of society- however they choose to identify their gender. If it becomes an exercise in self validation via these guidelines then the whole purpose of capturing demographic differences is lost. I will write to my MP about it and see if they can see the problems with this.

"So in answering the question about your biological sex, you don’t have to state your biological sex."

Quite.

Having a biological sex question and then a separate gender question makes sense, although like religion it would be best practise to allow an agender/atheist response that wasn't considered "transgender".

But then making the sex question not actually record sex. FFS.

By the way, Conservative Woman is not a Conservative Party website, it is about conservatism as a philosophy.

Caroline has written a number of thought-provoking articles on transgender issues; like many of you I like to read widely, especially people I might not normally come across.

MrsSnippyPants

Thank you for posting this article. Ten years ago, the idea that a Conservative govt would allow the bizarre linguistic dictates of a niche lobby to dominate and invalidate the results of an official census? Laughable. Yet here we are. The author of this piece suggests writing to MPs. I agree. Silence in this environment is compliance.

It is time to write to our MPs making sure they know and seeking answers. Making sure they can’t say ‘we didn’t know’ when this is finally recognised for being the safeguarding scandal that it is

Silence in this environment is compliance.

Absolutely Bovary

To paraphrase Jess Phillips on her recent webchat 'nobody mentioned it to me on the doorstep so clearly everyone is happy to go along with it'

NO Jess, most people don't know what the hell has been going on! Once they do, the vast majority will NOT be happy!

Absolutely. It's a deliberate tactic of the lobby. Avoid media scrutiny. Avoid public debate. Colonise institutions. Like the police. Adopt policies that have no legal basis then agitate for the law to change. Most people don't know because this has happened sub rosa. Time to make some noise with a new government which is supposed to be Conservative

Seems timely to post this article again
