Very good analysis.

Didnt know much about or read much about the Turner prize this year but I'm extremely annoyed by what one of them has said.

Not least as the art world has traditionally been so misogynistic towards women and perpetuated and fetishised certain attitudes visually. Especially the languishing, dead or dying naked woman.

Definitely gonna go see the Judy Chicago at the Baltic to offer some balance!

Is brilliant 👍

Very glad to read it's not Jo doing the silencing - misread the OP title!! Grin

HarrietThePi · 23/12/2019 17:37

Banning art, books, blacklisting people, no debate. I find it all so sinister

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/12/2019 18:45

Oops probably needed a colon in there!

Hope I didn't sound like a pedantic dick NT - I genuinely read it wrong!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 23/12/2019 20:50

Yep, excellent article.

JanesKettle · 23/12/2019 20:50

More seriously, I know enough art history to understand what happens in systems where art is tasked with the deliberate delivery of political propaganda

Very pertinent quote from art critic Waldemar Januszczak, included in Bartosch's article.

NeurotrashWarrior · 24/12/2019 08:39

Yes absolutely Janes. Art relies on patronage or politics but we are such visual creatures it reaches more of us than the written word. It only takes a glance.

This is especially chilling as I can't remember any other silencing of western artists recently beyond the nazi era. If anything, art and artistic institutions continues to be staunchly misogynistic with no self awareness. Both in terms of portrayal and women being able to be artists.

Sorry, as usual, inserting my recommendation to follow art activist barbie on twitter. She especially criticises galleries and their exhibition choices.

That’s awful. I’m not on Twitter but if there are any to follow on Instagram I would like to

Jess de Wahls tweeted the other day that TRAs target everyone she announces a collaboration with to try and get her cancelled.
