Interesting twitter thread Wink

twitter.com/ContrarianQuinn/status/1208367259502010368?s=19

I am a trans woman.
I was born with a vagina.
Yes we exist.
We are an even more vulnerable minority within a minority. We face all the same things as other trans women except many of us also menstruate and are vulnerable to pregnancy /1

#translivesmatter

We are at even greater risk of sexual and domestic violence than other trans women, but also we are trafficked, sold into marriage as children, and have our genitals mutilated in huge numbers globally /2

#translivesmatter #TransRightsAreHumanRights

We are subject to medical gatekeeping which prevents us from receiving gender affirming surgery, medical science has left us in the dust and surgeons refuse to give us neovaginas simply because we have vaginas.

#trans #translivesmatter

And the worst part is that bioessentialism excludes us even from the trans rights movement just because of the genitals we were born with. They say trans women born with vaginas aren't valid and insist on defining us by our genitals. /4

#translivesmatter #MayaForstater

But the #MayaForstater case has established that the belief that sex is observable is a philosophical belief no worthy of respect in a democratic society and the time has come for the trans community to get with the times and accept trans women born with vaginas
#translivesmatter

Trans women born with vaginas are and always have been trans women, regardless of the assumptions a bioessentialist white supremacist cisheteropatriarchal society makes about us based on our bodies.

#translivesmatter #WomenAreTransWomen

We face an insidious form of transphobia known as transsexism. These are the norms which privilege trans people who's bodies meet bioessentialist expectations about what it is to be trans over those who don't (eg. trans women born with penises over trans women born with vaginas)

The questions and answers further down the thread are also worth a read.

Brava to the author.

BloodyDrasticInnit · 22/12/2019 09:13

She's brilliant.

So brave and stunning Grin

popehilarious · 22/12/2019 09:30

A friend of mine is on Twitter as a trans woman. She got chatting to an American trans woman, trying to learn a bit more about shared experiences and the first thing the American TW wanted to know was about what genitals she had at birth. It really is important to them whether someone was born with male or female genitals, yet that's very commonly an insult aimed at GC women.

koshkat · 22/12/2019 11:00

Hilarious!

cwg1 · 22/12/2019 12:57

Acceptance Without Exception!

Siameasy · 22/12/2019 13:31

Fascinating. It shows the ideology up as nonsense.

MedusasButterDish · 22/12/2019 17:56

I don't want to go all Mark Hamill "I didn't know! Pleeeease forgive me!" but... this is satire, isn't it?

loserssaywhat · 22/12/2019 18:14

I can't tell the parody from the tra anymore. I really can't ..genuinely thought this was real. What is happening!

ScrimshawTheSecond · 22/12/2019 19:36

Brave. And, indeed, stunning.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 22/12/2019 19:45

Women are transwomen. And it's sad to see the amount of responses in that Twitter thread that aren't taking this seriously.

Acceptance without exception. Bon courage, ladies.

(Use of ladies is ironic and I intend no offense to non binary transwomen with vaginas).

InionEile · 22/12/2019 20:06

Hard to tell parody from earnest TRA posting at this stage. TRAs (not all trans people but the activist types) really do claim with straight faces that biological sex is not real while at the same time talking about their ‘transition’ (from what to what, one wonders, if biological sex isn’t real?) so they’re beyond parody by now!

Voice0fReason · 22/12/2019 20:44

I must admit I did have to read it a few times before I understood the thread.

It is brilliant and the fact that it is so hard to tell whether it is real says everything about where we are now.

EvenSupposing · 22/12/2019 20:48

I like that she has attracted st least one earnest ally. Although I think earnest ally has now realised that things may not be as they seem (ironically).

brendansbuddy · 23/12/2019 00:06

So clever

DonutMan · 23/12/2019 01:51

Took me a few seconds to realise it was parody, after which it made me chuckle. Remind me a bit of Piers Morgan's 'two spirit penguin'.

justcly · 23/12/2019 03:48

Watch out for those FERTs, ladies. They can be literally, physically violent. Stunning and brave, all of you. Flowers

NightLion · 23/12/2019 03:55

I have a massive fangirl crush on Quinn

NightLion · 23/12/2019 04:01

And a fondness for satire. After 2 brutal days on Twitter when i thought my head would explode, along comes Quinn - a clarion call of reason in a shit-storm.

SD1978 · 23/12/2019 04:14

Sadly- this does exist under the trans umbrella as a 'thing' it brings up a very interesting point- and did love the FERT comments.

justcly · 23/12/2019 04:22

I'm so proud of you all. All my life I've wanted to be stunning and brave like you, but I just don't have it in me. I've had to accept myself as a cistranswoman with a birth-assigned vagina. It's hard, but you come to terms with it.

BoomBoomsCousin · 23/12/2019 05:14

SD1987 I think that is for trans women who were born with a male body but insist they are essentially female and have always been essentially female it's just that society doesn't accept their feminity so they are having to transition from (in-their-head-)female to (society-accepted-)female. IYSWIM. (God, language is so fucked by this ideology).

CatInTheDaytime · 23/12/2019 09:45

I actually think “non-binary” is a way of doing this too. Obviously you get to keep your genitals and sex-based rights and in the case of my family member continue being a lesbian. But get to call yourself “trans” and claim special persecution. Not to mention apply for awards and grants and jobs under the trans umbrella.
