Info on spoilt ballots being gathered

(Haven't seen a thread i this so thought I'd share)

https://medium.com/@hatpinwoman/spoiling-for-a-vote-7c632e9752e4

I've no idea show this compares to previous elections but I imagine this is a high number by most elections standards.

Anyone have any historical figures on this?

I wonder what the general message was Hmm

the large Jewish population either moved to Lib Dem

I'm not sure a large population of anyone moved to lib dem.

CaptinKirk they did in Leeds North East. LDs increased their vote by approx 8%. Cons and Lab lost approx the same. Can’t remember exact figures off the top of my head.

When will people start getting bored of picking and going over the results. It's done. One headline I read earlier was a new bursary for nurses to train, I think that is brilliant.
People now need to accept the situation and voting. Work together.

I wrote and told my MP why I spoiled my paper. He responded within an hour. And ignored my self-ID comments, focussing on the other two issues I raised.
But he read it. I encourage everyone to do that, particularly if your sitting MP lost - mine got back in by the skin of his teeth.

Can’t remember exact figures off the top of my head.

for anyone interested [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/politics/constituencies/E14000779]

LD gained +7.5%

LAbour lost -5.6%

and Conservative lost -7.4

If anything they've gained the lost Tory voters.

People now need to accept the situation and voting. Work together.

In order to work together you need to find the problems stopping that from happening.

Tanith · 18/12/2019 17:04

“ They should be concerned about the voters they've lost. Long term voters who turned away from them.”

They are - the ones that voted for another party, that is.

Just spoiling your ballot? No, they won’t bother. By contacting her MP, Bellinisurge did more to get her message across.

PurpleHoodie · 18/12/2019 17:04

"A small number who spoiled ballots over an issue may give clues to a larger number who held their noses and voted anyway, or who voted for a different party when they'd usually vote for you."

Yes, thirdfiddle. Exactly that.

The prime Minister actually stated he knows his party have many "borrowed votes". For now.

DickKerrLadies · 18/12/2019 19:18

It would be interesting to see whether there was a significant increase in spoiled votes in the traditionally Labour constituencies who voted Tory.

Angryresister · 18/12/2019 20:03

I wrote immediately afterwards explaining why but no response as yet...

EdithWeston · 19/12/2019 06:39

General message is unchanged/slightly down.

It's about 0.3% of votes cast being rejected.

Rejected votes vary quite a bit, ranging up to about 0.5%
