went and mildly tortured my Lib Dem PPC at hustings last night by asking her about the trans parts of the manifesto. she looked like a rabbit in headlights, but gamely parroted 'lib dems believe trans women are women' (after answering a question to say that women should indeed have a right to single sex spaces, thus misleading the hustings in my view)

This is the pertinent question. What audience are they playing to?

Summary:

Swinson: many vulnerable trans people, rates of suicide is trans community much higher, "there's not a hierarchy of equality", huge discrimination, self harm, risk assessments will prevent abuse, sensationalised, no checking of birth certificates in toilets.
Barnett: "but I asked you a question about women in shelters, you're ignoring them", "how will you guarantee women's sex-based protections?", "why did you overlook sexual harassment in the Lib Dems when you were Women's and Equalities Minister"

TL:DR summary: Swinson really really struggled with that. If she still thinks that going along with trans activists is good for the Lib Dems then she's a complete idiot.
