Since its launch at the weekend more than 500 people have signed the Green women and girls' declaration calling for defence of our sex-based rights. Please sign and share to help us demonstrate the groundswell of support we have in the country.

Panic setting in, is it?

dayoftheclownfish · 25/11/2019 12:32

Bit late innit?

Inebriati · 25/11/2019 12:36

I'm disgusted that women have been driven to this in the first place by the politicians who are supposed to serve us.

ArcheryAnnie · 25/11/2019 12:42

I'm not a member of the Green Party, so I won't sign it, but I am glad to see that some sensible (non-barking?) Greens are trying to steer the Green Party away from the absolute misogynist shitshow it's become.

I've thought for a long time it must be absolutely miserable to be a woman, or gay, in the Greens. There's something especially depressing about the type of sexism which allows men to be sexist while lecturing women on how much better a feminist he, the man, is - and that's what the Green Party has been like for too long. (And meanwhile, the planet burns.)

You've got an uphill struggle ahead, so all power to your elbow. (But agree with the others - too late for this election, sorry.)

Rachelsfatarse · 25/11/2019 12:45

Will the Greens apologise for describing women as non-men?

Michelleoftheresistance · 25/11/2019 12:46

We really need all the party declarations to link up and show, regardless of political affiliation, these issues are of fundamental importance to all women.

Many of whom are completely unaware of their rights being stripped away, and of the views around these issues of the mostly males they are voting for.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 25/11/2019 12:47

Your party has been very clear that you aren't interested in the "non-men" vote, so I am happy to oblige by not signing my name to anything you wave at me.

StillWeRise · 25/11/2019 13:12

maybe we should try and support those women who are trying to make the green party see sense on this- how are parties going to change if they don't hear from us what issues matter to us?
A more constructive approach (if you have any interest at all in green politics, and since the planet is frying, we all should) would be to sign the declaration and then email your local green candidate, telling them what you have done and explaining why you are not going to vote for them.

whiteroseredrose · 25/11/2019 13:30

Can someone put a link in?

I'm not a member of any political party but regularly vote Green. This has been putting me off.

GreenChris · 25/11/2019 15:06

Here's the link to the petition: ipt.io/245LJ

Women in the Green Party - as in others - have been working hard within our party to turn this around. Support us, people, instead of criticising our efforts. Whatever we do within internal party structures can only be strengthened by clear demonstration of public support.

Well done to all those women putting their names to this and attempting to turn this misogynistic shitshow around. I do hope that all the bullies so evident in the Greens are told not to harass women who sign this (although I'm not hopeful given their track record).

Fallingirl · 25/11/2019 15:42

It is promising that women in 3 of the main parties have now issued such declarations.

It would be even more promising, if somewhat ironic, if Women’s Equality Party females did this as well.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 25/11/2019 17:43

I would love to vote Green. Especially now that Labour have lost me. But I can't vote for the party even if a lot of its members realise how awful these policies are.

MindTheMinotaur · 25/11/2019 17:57

I support this and have signed. Women who have stayed and fought within their party structures have been courageous. Women within the Green Party have been vocal and subject to tremendous harassment.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 25/11/2019 18:10

Good for you for fighting.

I'm still smarting from their non-man nonsense.

Beamur · 25/11/2019 18:18

I can't argue with any of your statements. Good luck to getting your voices heard. It takes courage these days to say this out loud.

PermanentTemporary · 25/11/2019 18:36

@Fallingirl there is a WEP women's declaration thread on this board, check it out. It's a lot more appealing than the Lib Dem womens version.

HandsOffMyRights · 25/11/2019 18:36

I could have been persuaded at one point, but
the Challenors, Caroline Lucas, posts from the Young Greens about burning T*rfs and police on horseback being called on women leafleting outside a Green Party conference showed me that this party hates women.

I did read and listen to some sane voices coming from The Greens though, including Beatrix Campbell and Andy Lewis? Who spoke out against the TRAs,
so good luck. I admire you for taking this on.

HandsOffMyRights · 25/11/2019 18:43

Some excellent comments on the petition by the way.

Witchothewoods · 27/11/2019 18:52

The petition is NOT a Green Party petition, it's been drawn up by Green Feminists, who are a group of women from a cross party group who are environmental activists - the petition is calling on the Green Party and wider green movement to support womens and girls rights - I know those women fighting within the Green Party can use all the support they can get and will use this petition to help with their fight. I have signed it
