Some GC Lib Dem women have started a Women's Declaration.

Please sign and share. You don't need to be a member, and you can sign it anonymously.

I know they've been a bit of a shit show of late but there are some members who do understand biology and who want to balance rights for all. It ain't perfect but it's a start.

"However we believe that important distinctions must be made between natal women, fully transitioned Transwomen and those who identify as Transgender yet have no wish to undertake physical or hormonal changes."

But, isn't that against what Stonewall says? Isn't that the opposite of acceptance without exception?

Fucing delighted. Will be sending this to my Lib Den MP, who's hoping for re-election. I've almost always voted Lib Dem, very much doubt I will this time. Nope.

Who has set this up? Do they have any sway? Haven’t they been asked to leave as they don’t follow the party line?

Outofexcuses · 18/11/2019 08:05

Signed.

LordProf Natalie Bird set it up, there's an old thread on here from last year when she was kicked out of a LD women's group as she'd been targeted by Zoë O'Connel - that's Sarah's bf isn't it?
So I don't know that she does hold any sway, but she's already been targeted by TRAs and is doing her best. I don't know her, BTW.

Thanks for all who are signing, I hope it makes a difference.

Im sorry, but there’s not a chance I’m going to curl up into the fetal position and beg the wokey blokeys to take me back.

Signed. I too used to be a fee paying membrane but cancelled my membership a while back quoting this as the reason.

The info about Natalie Bird and the mumsnet thread are on the first page of this thread!

I've been sent this.
On a Facebook group for Lib Dem Campaigners, someone has stated that the declaration is watering down commitment to trans rights, and asking campaigners NOT to support women's rights.

I'm shocked. Don't know whether a man or woman (or if they are trans) wrote that.

So sad that people are prepared to give away women's rights like this.

All the parties have drunk the kool-aid. The only way we're going to fight this successfully is from within. So good on the Lib Dem gc feminists and better late than never.

AdaFromYorkshire · 19/11/2019 15:18

I emailed my local LibDem candidate to ask if they were supporting this. The reply is that the petition is not affiliated with the LibDem party and that they will not be supporting anything which reduces the rights of transwomen to be in women's spaces.

Hmmm.
