a conspiracy theory on how modern Feminism

I read this recently and thought it would be an interesting subject, do you think there could be any weight in this? It's scary if so...

''Modern feminism was a product of the deep state. In the US in the 50's economists realised that Capitalism was going to face a productivity road block. But some bright spark realised that half of the potential workforce was at home, nest building. And so, modern feminism was born.

Gloria Steinem, a leading feminist of the time, was funded by the CIA. According to her and the CIA, this was under the guise that she was travelling to Europe to campaign on University campuses against the rise of Communism. But some suggest she was also part, knowingly or not, of a conspiracy to get more women into the workplace. Allegedly.

Now, if that were true, how ironic would that be? A group of white middle aged men in white shirts and black ties, all sat around a table in a smoke filled meeting room somewhere in Virginia. Plotting to convince women, and their husbands, that rather than staying at home and raising their children, they should be building their own career. And not only that, but they clearly sought to diminish the most important job a woman could have, raising children. They still needed to have children of course, but were persuaded that someone else should look after them, maybe their grandparents, or better still, pay someone else to do it.

And they only went and pulled it off. ''

Where is this from? Its bollocks, but even if there was any truth in it I’m not seeing how there are any negatives to women being encouraged to pursue their own careers. It’s an unfortunate fact that in a capitalist society money means independence, and having the means to take care of oneself alone is very important. How many women on here are trapped in abusive marriages because they’ve got no money to leave?

I totally agree. It does not compute with me that there's a negative side of women being independent and self sufficient.

Unfortunately I dont know the original source of it.

Not only won’t such a conspiracy be needed to have more women enter the labor force, but the CIA couldn’t have stopped it. Women entering the labor force in the numbers they have been doing is the result of many women acting for equality since at least the end of the 14th century (1390s). See the tread “Women in history and an examination of gender norms” for their stories. Also kindly comment there at least to say hello and thank you, Woodlandwitch and Dodgeballchamp for posting .
