I’d never heard of Jess De Wahls and couldn’t find any threads about this but she does embroidery (which is brilliant) and is GC. She wrote an GC essay in August and has been targeted by the fascist left..it’s a similar story to that in the knitting community but Wahls has stood firm. Might be worth a follow on Instagram/Twitter.

Her art is beautiful. I'm a tiny bit jealous I'm not that talented.

It's just appalling that craft spaces are being decimated by totalitarian thought police.

This is Glinners tweet about her.

Siameasy · 04/11/2019 18:20

Yeah it’s so intricate. I have not the patience for anything like that. She has embroidered a few vulvas I think which was probably “problematic”😂

I’m so glad tho that she did not capitulate

Jess is very cool.

💪💪

StopThePlanet · 04/11/2019 19:50

Jess is awesome! Shared her links (essay & art) with my friends & mom. I really enjoyed the essay, she is thoughtful and considerate yet pragmatic. Shock and awe with what she makes through embroidery... so talented! I had no idea art like this existed. I want a piece of her art... woe is me I must peruse. 🤓

Best of wishes Jess, you rock!

zebrasdontwearbras · 04/11/2019 20:02

Love your work, Jess Thanks

Binglebong · 04/11/2019 20:51

Thank you .

HearMeSnore · 04/11/2019 21:13

She's amazingly talented, takes no shit from squealing woke drones and I'm kind of in awe of her.

I'm also more than a little bit amused by the concept of embroidery being LITERAL VIOLENCE.

I dabble in cross stitch. I'm practically Vinnie Jones.

zebragotastrikeforquotingapost · 04/11/2019 21:34

MNHQ could take a leaf out of her book tbh

zebragotastrikeforquotingapost · 04/11/2019 21:35

Or a thread out of her embroidery Grin Wine

SisterWendyBuckett · 04/11/2019 22:26

Her embroidery is gorgeous. And she is awesome.

Backinthecloset123 · 04/11/2019 22:36

This was a brilliant essay of hers

Thanks for the link I mean, I'm not Jess!

Siameasy · 04/11/2019 22:58

For a minute I thought you were and was excited Binglebong

She’s immensely talented and no SJWs can take that away from her. I don’t know why they waste their time. She could have no followers and still have this amazing ability.

Seems like she's gained some. If I was on the relevant platforms I would.

Maybe the LGBA could commission a banner or something from her?

IWantADifferentName · 05/11/2019 04:26

She has said exactly what I want to say, but far more eloquently.

Language matters. I am pleased she defined her terms at the beginning.

And the embroidery - wow! again, she is far more eloquent with a needle than I am.

Driechdrizzle · 05/11/2019 08:08

Brave woman.

And her embroidery is stunning.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 05/11/2019 10:56

This is interesting because JDW has done a fair bit of work with the Vagina Museum. Who are so woke they think the most important thing that people need to know about vaginas is that TWAW.

Wonder what's going on in the background?

JessDeWahls · 05/11/2019 21:17

Hi :), I'm that Jess. Somebody just pointed out to me that she had found me through here, so i thought i take a look, and whataya know, lots of lovely words.

Re- Vagina Museum, yeah...we no longer work together ( surprise surprise), same goes for BloodyGoodPeriod, because those guys support "all people that bleed" etc ... soooo that's the background story.

OhHolyJesus · 05/11/2019 21:28

Hi Jess was hoping you'd pop up. I admit I hadn't heard or seen your work but now I have, thanks to this thread.

Welcome and...well...you're a Shero!

JessDeWahls · 05/11/2019 21:44

Thanks :)
Not to worry, i am still working on breaking embroidery into mainstream fine art, it being "women's work" and all that.

Funny thing is, that those that are trying to 'cancel' me (the most ridiculous concept) are just introducing lots of new people to my work, because the reality is, that this is a tiny shouty minority.
Not gonna lie, it's super uncomfortable ( there seems to be no end to the constant harassment campaigns against me) and had some serious real-life repercussions for me, but i'm not ever going to be bullied by these authoritarian bullies.

addle · 05/11/2019 22:01

Beautiful work and great writing, Jess. Thank you

teawamutu · 05/11/2019 22:06

Hi Jess! Have to admit I hadn't come across your work till I saw the thread on here, but I'm in awe. Can't afford one of your fabulous bigger pieces but I am dithering over which patches to adorn my next sewing project with. So there's that Grin
