Hope the link works. Misgendering or not? And he's not getting the response they expected. I think someone at the RBL is choking on the woke.

I used to respect Eddie Izzard when he was a self proclaimed man in a dress. And he’s clearly done a lot for this cause.

But I dislike & despise him for his misogynist belief that liking makeup & heels means he has ‘girl genes’. That’s perpetuating exactly the regressive, old fashioned stereotypes that he used to argue against.

Pota2 · 29/10/2019 20:03

If he’s a transwoman why does he use male pronouns?

I think that most of those objecting to him fronting the campaign just seem to be bigots. I can’t see why he’s more unsuitable than anyone else. I don’t wear the red poppy due to the pro-war angle the whole thing has acquired but I can’t see the objection to Eddie doing the advert.

GertiMJN · 29/10/2019 20:07

I'm a bit confused that I have been deleted for asking for clarification from those objecting to Eddie Izzard's appointment .....

Hey ho @MNHQ

I don't really get this one. Izzard is a celebrity who supports a cause. He's probably a reasonable match for a military charity being a very manly man. A bit stereotypical maybe but can't see the fuss.

BeMoreMagdalen · 29/10/2019 20:22

I don't particularly care for Izzard wrt women's rights issues, but not really seeing why the objections to him fronting an appeal for the RBL are more significant to FWR than just airing a general dislike for him. I mean, you don't have to like him, I don't, but other than, I don't get this thread.

Chloemol · 29/10/2019 20:36

I don’t get it, what was wrong with what Eddie said?

@VickyEadieofThigh He has stated publicly that he is happy to be addressed by either pronoun.

For those asking about Eddie's gender identity:

Article here is which Eddie states: Even though I am transgender, I am one of the lesbians.

Eddie adds: It was a risky move coming out as what we used to call a transvestite

(Note that 'transvestite' is used under Stonewall's umbrella, so it is still in use).

The objections on the twitter feed seem to be on the grounds of him being so overtly political, rather than the way he presents (unless those people are being disingenuous - I suspect some of them are.)

Like pps I have a problem with Izzard's sense of entitlement to women's spaces and his natural inclination to place women's rights and needs as secondary to his own, but I don't have a problem with him supporting the RBL.

Link between army men and AGP - conjecture based on a few individuals I now - try to be a Real Man so join army because seen as super-macho; later realise for whatever reason that being a 2D manly caricature isn't working; flip to opposite stereotype and try to be a Real Woman cardboard cut out instead. Agp commonly starts around puberty/adolescence and you can't join the army that young; I surmise some men join the army because they've internalised sexist stereotypes and are using them for identity-formation purposes.

Eddie's a twonk, but nevertheless a useful demonstration of the principle that adherence to genderist ideology makes men infinitely less appealing.
