Detransition group and other resources to help me on a page teacher discussion?

ValancyRedfern · 22/10/2019 09:12

I'm deep in a discussion with pshe teachers on FB and they are all recommending GenderBread, Fox and Owl. I am Leo and the rest.

Please can you recommend me some resources to put up for a quick intro to the alternative view? It is these teachers we need to reach and the meßage certainly hasn't got to them!

What is the name of the detransition group started I. The US?
Also, where can I find lily Maynard articles now she's been banned from word press?

Sorry to be so demanding. In a slight panic to get this stuff up before I'm banned from the group!

Stephanie Davies-arai & Charlie Evans are 2 women to google, both on twitter too.

Have you looked at Transgendertrend already? They have specific resources for schools.

ValancyRedfern · 22/10/2019 10:17

Oh I've read them all! Just looking for the best quick links to introduce the teachers to another viewpoint. I imagine they've been told transgender trend is a hate group so I don't want that to be my first gambit!

Pique Resilience is a detransition group. They have YouTube videos. I don't know how appropriate the content is for your discussions but it does show young women speaking up about how they found the whole ideology problematic.

ValancyRedfern · 22/10/2019 10:42

Thank you! Pique resilience project was what I was looking for. I know organisations like Transgender trend would have been dismissed (wrongly) so I wanted something from the horses mouth as it were. I've left the discussion now for my own sanity as my anxiety levels are now through the roof. But I hope I have down some seeds of doubt... I'm also scared as my school is easily found from my FB page so I hope non of them are minded to report me. Luckily I have already shared transgender trend resources with my own school and I haven't been fired yet....
I can't believe highly educated teachers in charge of page are recommending the sodding GenderBread person. We have a long way to go...

For 'page' read 'pshe' throughout thread!

Good on you for speaking your mind. It's definitely scary and a bit stressful to stand up and say things that are deemed to be controversial, even if it's online. I still can't believe all of this is controversial.

All you can do is say what you think and provide links to resources. Leave it up to others to think about it. As you mentioned it's about sowing seeds of doubt. People don't change their minds immediately. They start asking themselves questions and mull things over a period of time.
Some will take on board what you've said and others won't. There is a silent majority that agree with you but feel hesitant to openly support or agree in case their own position is challenged.

I've been saying 'controversial' things on a Facebook group today. I wonder if I'll get banned for it. I already had one post deleted and I think the other one might get pulled as well. But hopefully it was up long enough that lurkers can read the links and make up their own mind. My target is always the lurkers, not the TRAs themselves.

Gender bread and all The Barbie CS GI Joe gender line and all that is so... disingenuous.

“Haha it’s all in fun, don’t take things so seriously, this is just a cute and fun icebreaker to start a conversation...”

Then two minutes later...

“If you don’t pretend adult human males are female or imply that sex exists or matters you are literally killing people”

There is a support group for detransitioners and desisters about to be launched in the UK - the Detransition Advocacy Network - by Charlie Evans.

Here's Charlie's Medium account, her articles are well worth sharing IMO:

Oh, weird that link doesn't work!

I can't get it to work her at all. I'll post direct links to Charlie's articles instead. First up:

Thank you so much! I've been busy most of the day and haven't gone back onto the group. About to brave it now....

Right. Have gone back on. People very polite (forgot it was a load of teachers not Twitter!) And only one person accused me of transphobia and said I shouldn't be a teacher... Posted a few more links then got the hell out of Dodge. Hope I've made at least one person think!

How's it been since, Valancy? Any fall out / colleagues having epiphanies?

ValancyRedfern · 29/10/2019 22:44

I'm afraid I didn't go back onto the group. I get insanely anxious and forced myself to leave it be after one revisit. I haven't been banned though which is something! I got one 'like' but the rest was very much everyone following the Stonewall line. I'm a drama teacher by trade but very interested in pshe so joined the pshe teachers group. It scared me. These are all pshe professionals in charge of the pshe curriculum for their schools. A
I am terrified of the ideas children are being fed. None of these people are tras; they've just watched 'I am Leo' and read the Stonewall training pack and want to be 'good' people so they go along with it. Even in drama there is a play called 'Pronoun' which is very popular in schools. All about teenage transition and entirely on message with Stonewall et al.
I'm lucky my school has not swallowed it all whole (probably helped by it being a faith school - something which isn't normally a plus point for me!).

I just hope I made at least one person think.

You will have made people think. I get how nerve wracking it is, I used to do this on FB and in the end I deactivated my account because you’d just be constantly arguing. And I love debates but people don’t often debate honourably these days. I did have some respectful debate but the gaslighting, the utter bullshit...it’s understandable that you feel anxiety.

FWIW I nearly fell out with a long standing friend over the trans issue at the time. Gay male. He recently told me that he agrees that TW shouldn’t be in female sports which is something

Another important detransitioner voice is GNC-centric, a Canadian woman who had done a series of YouTube videos on the subject.
