Tone, not tons

Feminist Current mentioned that the Toronto Public Library has a public statement about this issue on their website, basically saying the same things as Vickery Bowles said in the interview.

Vickery Bowles take a bow! Take ten, take as many as you like, I swear I’m bloody cheering out loud here. I know where my vote’s going for the Annual Ovaries of Steel award. I can’t imagine how much pressure has been brought to bear on her to rescind the booking, even the bloody mayor’s jumping in, and then to have to sit there and be interrogated and berated by a so-called journalist who’s totally oblivious to the irony in wanting to moderate free speech.

What a brilliant woman. That interview was absolutely chilling, though. I can't imagine support for any other 'cause' (and by cause, I mean the basic human rights of half the population) being interrogated like that. Even the title was biased, framing it in the negative.

I almost LOL-ed at the mention of 20% of transexuals being victims of violence. WHAT ABOUT WOMEN BEING VICTIMS OF RAPE, SEX ASSAULT, DOMESTIC ABUSE, VIOLENCE? Our victim numbers dwarf anything that happens to trans people. How come no one ever mentions that? Oh right, because no one cares...

Heartened by the twitter responses at least. The handful of trans-fans were mostly beardy men, as per usual.

I find this so shocking. Is it so clear that even if you think maybe the library was wrong, you can't see that there is also an argument around freedom of speech?

Everything has become so absolute and authoritarian, if people say something you don't like, they need to be banned, lose their jobs, etc.
