@HypatiaJournal
. Am aghast. Self-defence classes for women "reinscribe the gendered constructions of male sexuality as dangerous and of women's bodies as sexually vulnerable".
So do women-run rape crisis centres! These "reinscribe the construction of an adversarial and biologically grounded male/female dichotomy rather than challenging it" AND AND AND "It is these constructions, I suggest, that are the cause of rape".

Fucking hell. Fingers crossed it’s a grievance studies hoax!

Damn.

In Brighton women's rape crisis now condemns female rape survivors w female specific rape trauma wrt male bodies as "bigots & transphobes". Meanwhile transmen with whom there is no problem, do not come out of consideration for women (females) who may be distressed/traumatically triggered by their presentation as men.

I fear not--I recently met an academic who breezily declared herself to endorse an anti-prison stance and I'm pretty sure she meant in all cases...Very much a product of certain kinds of post-modern and Queer theory (like the article).

This should be an exemplar under the dictionary definition of privilege, it’s I’m alright Jack taken to the extreme. How fucking self-absorbed does a person have to be to be able make an academic exercise out of rape? Playing mind and word games with the tragic experiences of others?
Meh, rape’s not so bad - if you think about it from the perspective of the rapist and don’t call the act or the perpetrator what they are - no, it’s really not so bad.

Am I being thick here or does that basically say that women get raped because they are afraid of getting raped, by men who they think are dangerous and capable of raping them, and because they try to learn how to defend themselves, and ask for help, when they are raped, from other women?
Whereas if they trusted men, let men in their spaces, and were lovely and friendly to men they wouldn't get raped?
That about it?
I'm thinking someone is playing jiggery pokery with the whole concept of cause and effect here.
