What if the state no longer sexed us? Meeting in London on 30 October

This seems to be part of the ESRC funded project which some of us tried to find out on what basis it was being funded. The survey was totally flawed and forced you to agree with gender identity, etc., etc., etc.. But it seems professional standards no longer matter in the academice world - and the ESRC is happy to fund any number of rainbow projects. The problem with this one is it is an attempt to change the law in the UK.

Bump! This is important stuff - thanks so much for the link to the meeting. Will try to be there

Have read the article and they seem to be in total denial about some of the criticism they received which was not just about the issue itself, but the fact that they had (whether intentionally or not) totallly slanted the questions.

Did anyone keep a copy of the survey as I would like to comment on the article, but the survey is no longer on line.

Would be good to give example of how they distorted responses.

Thanks Thingybob!

I was taken in by the official web site saying it was closed.

Will try and pick out some of the more obvious survey errors when I have time tomorrow.

But in all honesty I dont think they, the university or the funders care.

In some horrible way the more criticism they get the more they seem to think they are right.

Also only an academic would think that institutions / the state could get by without sexing us. Just posing the question is about creating the climate that is trying to say biological sex is irrelevant.

Whoops sorry I think that was a different survey

FWRLurker · 07/10/2019 01:39

I remember this survey. I think it’s really interesting to hear that the TRAs were up in arms about some of the questions and assume the survey has a “T—- agenda”

Personally, I think it would be OK if sex were not on licenses and passports. People (journalists police, etc) will still know and report what sex people are when relevant, such as crime etc. I think legal gender could still exist without it being put on IDs (I think it should be on a birth cert but nothing else).

re: Article discussing responses to that survey

They seem to be deleting comments. Or at least critical ones. And as there are no comments showing can only assume no postive ones have been posted.
