Please pay attention to the seismic shift illustrated here.

Article in the Herald exploiting the "tell a lie enough times and they will believe it" tactic. Morton manipulative as usual. However note the total lack of the word gender.

Apparently the peskiness of biology is getting in the way again, of the feelz and the nonsense dictionary rewrite. There are two kinds of sex now; birth certificate sex and lived sex. (Gender is totes over?!?) and how dare SCIENCE be so mean Hmm

Seriously though, this is a sinister move to deliberately obfuscate by removing the definition of the word sex in entirety yes? So insisting sex is recorded as well as gender becomes a meaningless move? Has this been going on elsewhere?

I think that was what the ONS was up to with the Scottish census - redefining sex

Mermoose · 27/09/2019 18:44

(Gender is totes over?!?)
I think this could be a tactical error. The amorphous, ineffable blob that 'gender' is confuses people enough that they nod along with it. People know what sex means and I think you'll have more people doing a double take at lines like this:
"this is a concerted campaign to try to deny that trans people really are the sex they live as".

littlbrowndog · 27/09/2019 19:10

Bonkers bonkers bonkers.

Why does Morton really really dislike women ?

littlbrowndog · 27/09/2019 19:10

Especially women talking about their rights

It's interesting isn't it? I think now that non-binary is not going to be legislated for in Scotland, the language of the trans organisations is shifting from gender identity to lived sex. So moving away from the 100+ genders to the binary.

Still waiting on a definition for lived sex though. EN haven't updated the glossary on their website to include this new term and the attempts to explain it at the census committee were, um, interesting: "so it's about clothes then?".
www.parliament.scot/parliamentarybusiness/report.aspx?r=11836&i=107072&c=2137217#ScotParlOR

Also interesting is the letter submitted to the EHRiC committee by James Morton and Tim Hopkins. More nonsense on lived sex, but also this complete turnaround:
"The recognition of trans people’s lived sex in no way undermines sex-based protections for other people. Nor does it affect the availability of single-sex spaces for other people.
The protection given by the sex protected characteristic in the Equality
Act 2010 does of course protect women from discrimination on grounds
of their biological sex."
www.parliament.scot/parliamentarybusiness/CurrentCommittees/111972.aspx

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Tim arguing that the Equality Act was all about legal sex? Yep, here he is at the census committee saying just that:

the section 28 thing again
how old is this person - do they actually remember section 28 and the situation then?
my bet is they have no idea whatsoever, but many of us hateful bigots were there and vocal against it

PickledGulag · 27/09/2019 20:06

Agreed, and genderism is homophobic so it is always a ridiculous point to try and make.

transseminars.com/resources/trans-genealogies/james-morton/

James is the Scottish Transgender Alliance Coordinator. Since 2007 his national post has been funded by the Scottish Government to provide the Scottish public and voluntary sectors with training and policy development guidance on transgender equality and human rights. He has worked collaboratively with a wide range of academics, voluntary sector organisations and public bodies in Scotland, the UK and Europe to evidence transgender experiences of gender inequalities.

Whilst men who identify as transgender have demanded the publicity spotlight, women who identify as transgender have been hard at work in the background (altering policy and positioning themselves as influencers).

Some things never change.
