Just saw this on Twitter. I think it's a screenshot from Facebook. What a load of offensive, uninformed bollocks.

The man posting it said it refers to a woman who had a double mastectomy for medical reasons.

Odd, isn't it. Every one here can define women to include ALL women AND exclude men.

This only men who cannot do this...

Just because I'm infertile doesn't mean I'm now a man, and it especially doesn't mean that a man is therefore a woman like me.

Sex is biology, that's it. I can't see why they get so tangled up in definitions.

I see on the Twitter thread someone has made the reasonable point that we don't know the provenance of this. The trouble with that is I have seen very similar points made and we all know that lawmakers and professional bodies are taking this kind of thing very seriously. I find this baffling. I keep trying to think about the first time this came up in meetings, maybe 15 years ago. Why didn't people just laugh and say 'no' and move on?

And what about the woman who has a mastectomy first but reconstructive surgery much later? Is she not-female during that time?
