Sian Griffiths has been doing great work over there, I've seen her name popping up a lot recently.

JoyceJeffries · 15/09/2019 07:20

About time Mermaids was shut down.

AncientLights · 15/09/2019 07:22

I'm a few lines in and already - if puberty blockers make no changes, why use them? What has giving puberty blockers got to do with teachers anyway? Surely even Mermaids aren't about to campaign for prescribing rights for teachers ? Oh.. hang on...

On a positive note - someone recorded yet another Mermaids 'training' session for our delight & edification. Hurray!

JoyceJeffries · 15/09/2019 07:26

It does go to show that the average person attending a Mermaids training session is deeply uncomfortable because so many have felt the need to record them.

AncientLights · 15/09/2019 07:31

Seems it was in 2018, so we probably already know about it. Mermaids seem to take legitimacy from their government funding - not sure they should. After all the government of the day gave funding to the Paedophile Information Exchange.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/09/2019 07:34

Well, to be fair, "puberty blockers" do do something. They damage your bones and produce what a friend who took them described to me as "brain fog", which is an excellent thing to have going on during a period where one is being asked to make major decisions while still a child.

SophoclesTheFox · 15/09/2019 07:44

I’m not a teacher, so no idea, but is any of this usual practice? I’d have thought it was extremely unusual (inappropriate?) to involve teachers in medical decisions of children in their care, so why are they being lobbied on this? They’re not going to be involved in any way in deciding if a child takes these evil drugs, so they have no need at all of this indoctrination/“training”.

Mermaids is a very worrying organisation. The next Kids Company in waiting.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/09/2019 07:47

Can someone dig up a link to the document that Mermaids produced that explained what they'd like schools to do in regards to students who identify themselves to a staff member as trans? The one that had everyone who's familiar with safeguarding rules staring in abject horror? Because there may be something in there in regards to what role they think teachers ought to have in a child's drug regime.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 15/09/2019 08:21

I don't know about Mermaids but GIRES have a toxic online training session for adults working with children where in a role play they insist on immediate affirmation and confidentiality - for both a primary and secondary child.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 15/09/2019 08:25

Are they expecting teachers to keep a stash of Lupron in their offices and hand them out like Panadol?

Actually they'd probably accept more regulation for headache medicine than for hormones and other associated trans treatments.

This is so sad. I read an honest article about a girl who took puberty blockers because she wanted to be a boy. She thought it would help her fit in and be more like the guys. Instead it made her not fit in with either the boys or the girls because she was trapped in a little kids body while the girls developed and the boys also developed. She was left confused and afraid not knowing what she was.
In another article, they were saying kids who took puberty blockers and then later decided not to transition have suffered life long damage to their bodies. Puberty doesn’t just pick up, it is shortened. So many of these kids ended up very androgynous in appearance which has only made them feel even worse.
They have real side effects and those should not be glossed over or ignored.

I’m a DSL in a primary school. I did that online training when I was told by the then PSHE lead for our local authority that schools should use the Allsorts schools toolkit and should not use the Transgendertrend toolkit because it was not compliant with the Equality Act. She suggested the testing because I clearly needed educating about trans issues.

The training was the biggest crock of shit I’d ever come across. It was impossible to progress through the questions unless you embraced total affirmation and ignored all the safeguarding training you’d ever done.

FamilyOfAliens · 15/09/2019 08:33

Training, not testing 🙄

Hellbentwellwent · 15/09/2019 08:35

It is unconscionable that mermaids is peddling the lie that puberty blockers are innocuous pause button drugs with no side effects. They cause lasting damage. This is well known information... people have been lobbying for YEARS to have these drugs investigated. There have been class action law suits made against the manufacturers by women who have been permanently disabled by these drugs.

It’s not even as if this information is buried, it’s easy to access, they are lying in broad daylight and it’s an utter fucking disgrace.

First result in google when you type in lupron long term effects is the image attached...

That is from the trading session that was transcribed last year. Glad it's being dusted off though. More sunlight please!

Birdsfoottrefoil · 15/09/2019 08:44

I am sure you now know Family that it is the transgendertrend toolkit that IS Equality Act compliant and the Trans organisations are trying to discredit it as they want to rewrite the law.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 15/09/2019 09:02

Mermaids is not giving pupils a choice that they may just be gay or lesbian.

the press are really starting to be more open about the idea that mermaids may peddling what is effectively homosexual conversion therapy

i guess the question is, do they know they're massive homophobes or is it subconscious?

FamilyOfAliens · 15/09/2019 09:14

Yes, I’ve been keeping Stephanie Davies-Arai fully briefed on all my communications with the various organisations sharing the misinformation with schools.

While ignoring any advice not to share the TGT toolkit with colleagues across the county, obviously Grin
