I’m just watching ‘A confession’ about the disappearance and murder of Sian O’Callghan. I have daughters and it’s frightening that they will need to be taught to have their guard up so much even when it comes to getting into a taxi. It’s very frightening to think I’ll not be able to protect them against men.

Teach them sensible precautions without making them too scared to venture outside.
Enrol them in Krav Maga classes. DD did it for a couple of years and now volunteers to provide security at feminist meetings.
She can drop the biggest bloke to the floor and safely disable him long enough for her to run away. It’s all about how to get away from a situation, rather than a martial art stay and fight plan.
DD has such confidence now when out alone at night, she really gives off a “Don’t mess with me, pal!” vibe, which helps to deter potential assailants too.
