Advice re feedback on mixed sex shower/toilet facilities?

I should know this, but I'm being lazy and asking you on-the-ball women.

I just stayed in a student hall of residence (cheap B&B in an expensive city). Basic but OK - I use this sort of accommodation a lot. Except that this time, the nearest lavatory/shower facilities were designated mixed sex. The cubicles were not secured floor to ceiling, and indeed, the shower cubicles had no latches.

At first, I assumed that it was only women/girls on the corridor, but found that that was not the case when I bumped into a mild-mannered young man who was almost as discombobulated as I was.

I didn't have any issues, but that is not the point, is it?

I was only there one night, so didn't ask to be moved (although I should have). But I want to give them some feedback about what I think is the probable illegality of the set up.

Can you give me pointers on chapter & verse of the law about this? I'm assuming most of the summer vacation guests were over 18 - I can't remember if this makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Let people know on review sites like trip advisor as well as complaining.

Be sure to tell them how at risk you felt. Ask if they've done risk assessments and if their insurers are fine with it. Ask if they realise that many/most women would feel exactly the same and especially sexual assault survivors and women of specific faiths.

You do have the law on your side here. Single-sex spaces and services are lawful under the Equality Act 2010. Even those with a GRC can be excluded if it's a proportionate means to meeting a legitimate aim. Make sure the organisation knows they could be breaking the law.
