Manchester Pride kicked out HIV+ gay photographer

His crime? Photographing the brave lesbians and detransitioners who defied the threats to protest Manchester Pride.

“This leaves me with a question relevant to the community whom Pride is meant to serve: in whose interests are Manchester Pride and their PR team at Down at the Social running and censoring events, if not the community itself?”

I think Pride has been and gone. Jumped the shark. No longer what it used to be.

Qcng · 28/08/2019 19:13

On the plus side, once gay men are fucked off by it, there's more chance of a tipping point ...

ChattyLion · 28/08/2019 20:29

How dare they tell a photographer what he can cover? Why are they censoring him? Why are they so anti-lesbian? And excluding him from the vigil is just nasty.

Is he in the NUJ? Can he complain to NUJ so they can write to these authoritarian fuckwits to tell them to back off?

Ariana Grande photography is different matter, NUJ are already intervening there: www.nuj.org.uk/news/photographers-warned-not-to-sign-unfair-contracts-for-covering/

I am beyond shock at anything Pride, our government, Trump, or the Brazilian PM does now. I'm done. The world is officially mad, crazy mad. I'm going to bury myself in 80s and 90s culture - mainly sitcoms - now. Back when stuff made sense.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/08/2019 20:56

DH is watching Life on Mars on Iplayer. I wish I could "have an accident and wake up in 1973".

Sorry fo derail.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/08/2019 22:11

Zebra you should come and join us on the 70s Christmas thread. I might stay there forever 🌲 [santa]Wine

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/08/2019 22:12

Ooooh - sounds good. I'm not sure I can think about Christmas just yet... but I'll look in Wine

Unfortunately I think it will be a long time before Pride takes a fall - everyone I know is unquestioningly supportive. Certainly as a heterosexual I would be very careful about criticising Pride in general conversation, and I think even friends who accepted my criticism would judge that it's still overall a good thing.

In fact it is overall a good thing. We do still need these symbols that homosexuality exists and must be accepted. I just wish they'd drop all the kink stuff, and now that we have Trans pride I wish it would split off into it's won separate parade.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 29/08/2019 00:36

now that we have Trans pride I wish it would split off into it's won separate parade

They want both, and international women’s days/women’s marches, lesbian events, remembrance days, mother’s day...

HelenaDove · 29/08/2019 01:30

@zebrasdontwearbras i think lots of people feel the same right now.

Ugh. All the fetishists crawling out to play. It's utterly sickening and the parents of those poor children who look appalled should be ashamed of themselves.

Zebras I'm with you.
Isn't it traditional for aged people to spend their days complaining about the modern age and expressing relief that they will be leaving this rotten world soon? But it's come to us so much sooner. I can't spend the next thirty years moaning like an aged batty nonagenarian. I need a private island where I can be a hermit.

I recommend some Chinese YouTube ers I have recently started watching. It's very peaceful and restoring.

Granny in her mad hat and the dogs at the end are the best. She made a silk duvet for her Grandmother starting with the silk worms!

Dianxi videos are a bit less curated than Liziqi and the glimpses of family life, her young cousin who she takes such care of and her cheerfulness are lovely.

I might see if I can persuade them to have me in my old age. Sitting on the porch peeling nuts or whatever fruit or vegetables she is using that day seems like a peaceful and useful way to live out ones' days.

The Repair Shop on BBC2 is very calming. We've taken to watching that at 7pm instead of Channel 4 news. Better for my blood pressure.

DickKerrLadies · 29/08/2019 16:49

The Repair Shop will make you cry, but in a different way!

zebrasdontwearbras · 29/08/2019 20:15

Ah thanks for the soothing & reminiscent suggestions lovely FWR women - yesterday was all a bit much really! Wine & Cake

And Thanks for Joel Goodman in the OP.
