I hope the link works, unbelievable, how did they get funding ?
Woman you must have rectovaginal endometriosis because you're as hot as hell

cathycassidy · 16/08/2019 00:04

I saw this and thought the same

cathycassidy · 16/08/2019 00:07

I liked this users response -
“My takeaway: women deemed unattractive by current conventional standards are ignored or misdiagnosed when they report their symptoms.”

nocoolnamesleft · 16/08/2019 00:10

How the hell would that get past an ethics committee?

31RueCambon · 16/08/2019 00:13

Wow. The man defending this, what value is there to this link, for women, for medics, pharmaceutical companies? Finding this link, no, consciously searching for a link, that is definitely sexist!

OccasionalKite · 16/08/2019 00:31

Is there any branch of men's health, where their "attractiveness" would ever, even, occur?

NotYourCisterinAus · 16/08/2019 02:52

As an endometriosis sufferer, this gives me The Rage. The same rage I had when a doctor told me, "It's just period pain". WTF??

BitOfFun · 16/08/2019 03:39

I'm pretty sure it's a spoof study, from the reactions on twitter.

EverardDigby · 16/08/2019 05:36

Not a spoof, www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0015028212021279

Fuckedoffat48b · 16/08/2019 05:42

Why did they have to be nulliparous?

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 16/08/2019 05:51

Before I read it I wondered if it was as about doctors possibly taking “attractive” patients more seriously, which means get have been interesting.

And now I’ve read it I’m OMG, kill all the researchers and salt the earth they stood on.

SinkGirl · 16/08/2019 06:07

FFS

I wonder if people realise just how little research funding is given to this disease, despite the fact that it affects 10% of all women.

There’s no money to investigate why I’ve been in agony for 25 years, but someone’s funding this?

FUCK OFF. FUCK OFF AND DIE.

SophoclesTheFox · 16/08/2019 06:24

For actual fucking fucks sake.

Really, REALLY disappointed to see that the comment about 50% of his wives being endo hotties is from Dr David Redwine, who has always been a great advocate for women getting good treatment for endo (endopaedia.info). David, the fuck you thinking, man?

I could swing for these researchers. Endo is poorly understood, badly treated, dismissed as period pain and wrecks women’s lives and it needs to be taken seriously.

My infiltrating recto-vaginal endometriosis took 10 years of my life, years lost to chronic pain and suffering, to repeated surgeries, some of them botched, the last one taking eight hours when finally a competent surgeon painstakingly cut every last scrap of the evil disease out of me, and I still suffer the after effect of the disease and the treatments to this day. It cost £20,000 to get that surgery. The NHS don’t do it.

To the researchers: fuck you for sniggering at women like this. Do some proper research that might help stop women’s lives being wrecked.

SophoclesTheFox · 16/08/2019 06:32

Flowers sinkgirl so sorry you’re suffering.

Why did they have to be nulliparous

With this level of ignorant sexism, they probably think mums can’t be hot.

IStillMissBlockbuster · 16/08/2019 08:01

I would be extremely interested in the ethical approval and funding processes for this. Plus the authors should answer for it.

IdrisElbasLeftTesticle · 16/08/2019 08:10

why did they have to be nulliparous

It will be because having had children is a confounding factor. You would need a whole separate study to find out if women who are mothers are taken less seriously (whether or not they are also ‘hot’ 🙄). There’s a shit-ton wrong with this study, but that’s actually sound methodology

Juanmorebeer · 16/08/2019 08:22

Wtaf. I don't know what more to say really

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 16/08/2019 08:24

There is currently an Australian petition to Parliament about including endometriosis meds on the PBS. If you are Australian it would be good if you could sign and circulate it.

It’s an approved parliamentary petition, so I’m assuming you won’t get the change.org level of nuisance emails.

CaveMum · 16/08/2019 08:52

I thought it was a sick joke, but no it’s been published on PubMed too.

Wenttoseainasieve · 16/08/2019 09:12

'Women with rectovaginal endometriosis were judged to be more attractive than those in the two control groups. Moreover, they had a leaner silhouette, larger breasts, and an earlier coitarche'

What. The. Fuck. Never mind the debilitating pain, they've got bigger tits!!!

CaveMum · 16/08/2019 09:14

This should be put in AIBU to bring more women’s attention to it.

This is how little is thought of women’s medical issues, rather then spending money researching how better to help women with endo or looking for preventative measures/cures they’d rather rate how hot they are.

practicalmagick · 16/08/2019 09:22

This horrific study appears to be from 2012, I think? There was an outcry at the time and the authors of the study responded to "clarify", in which they implied it's all fine because it tells us that maybe Marilyn Monroe had endemetriosis (!!!???)

endometriosis.org/news/research/attractiveness-of-women-with-endometriosis/

Sadly I doubt the world has necessarily moved on...

CaveMum · 16/08/2019 09:49

It gets better, they didn’t give the participants full information despite getting them to sign informed consent forms.

Whatisthisfuckery · 16/08/2019 10:21

Fucking hell, that is all.

Sicario · 16/08/2019 10:33

I would dearly like to have fifteen minutes in a locked room on my own with that man.

Years of agony, years of being fobbed off, until I went privately to a female professor-level surgeon who took one look at the (private because nobody before had bothered) scan and said, nah, you don't want that in there any more.

OvaHere · 16/08/2019 10:48

This is disgusting. What the hell is going on with the ethics in studies? Who gave funding to this?
