"It’s been six months since, almost overnight, I went from an ally to a bigot, from an advocate to a Nazi. I was a vocal feminist, an out-and-proud lesbian, but, because I couldn’t agree that biological sex was nothing more than a feeling, the rest of it didn’t matter. I was out."

Good read

Datun · 07/08/2019 05:29

Interesting. She obviously feels liberated by recognition of the truth. Good for her.

"So, on the record:
Transwomen are men. Men cannot become women. They can choose to change their appearances to look more like women, and they can affect stereotypically feminine dress and mannerisms, but they were born male and will remain male for their whole lives.
Because transwomen are men, their actions and demands must be examined and considered in the same light as any other man’s. If a transwoman insists that a woman talking about her own body is unacceptable, then we must respond to that insistence the way we would if any other man had done so. If a transwoman demands the right to women’s platforms, the right to speak for women, we must respond the way we would if any other man made such a demand. If a transwoman claims the right to occupy women’s spaces and consume their limited resources, that claim must not be considered different from one made by a man who didn’t first claim to be female.
Men are trampling the rights of women and getting away with it by claiming to be women. This is absurd and unacceptable."

Brilliant article, I applaud her bravery. (Not that it should be bravery to say basic logical facts of course)

HeyDuggeesCakeBadge · 07/08/2019 07:36

The absurdity of it all still baffles me - up until 18 months ago I was an ally too. All that changed exactly for the reasons stated in the article.

I'm still baffled but more angry that this is happening. Everyone I talk to IRL are totally gobsmacked when I discuss it and although willing to be kind and use preferred pronouns they do not believe in totally denying reality and science. It's honestly ludicrous and I despair of how we even got here.

Although I still will fight tooth and nail for the rights to equality for trans people, I would not be considered an ally by that community. They have alienated a lot of allies as the TRAs are behaving like entitled males.

JackyHolyoake · 07/08/2019 07:41

A very pertinent sentence from that article:

In one awful moment, I realized that this wasn’t about the liberation of a sexual minority or about the peace and safety of societal misfits — it was men finding another way to subjugate and abuse women, by erasing them.

DpWm · 07/08/2019 07:47

The Medium have form for deleting articles like that. I hope it stays up.

Jacky I agree and I think most people's "peak trans" moment brings them to that realisation.
Once seen, can't be unseen.

I thought that was spot on - thanks for the link.

That’s great! Really well written. Thanks for sharing.

But my education is in healthcare, and I understand biology. I love it, in fact. And I know that sex, except in rare intersex cases, isn’t assigned — it’s observed. The appearance of the genitals indicates the correct biological sex of a person nearly all of the time. And a person’s sex impacts countless aspects of their life, including their medical needs and social position. Sex is real, it’s obvious, and it matters. It used to be okay to say that.

FormerMediocreMale · 07/08/2019 08:08

They were speaking the language of the male abuser. They were using his tactics. And they had the same disrespect for the dignity, well-being, boundaries, and autonomy of women.

This

Yes!

More people need to read this.

Years ago, I would go along to Pride marches with my gay friends. It was always a grand day out. People were happy, having fun, everyone was welcome. We were talking this weekend about how Pride has become a polluted cesspit of misogynistic hate and how none of us would be seen dead there now.

Young "woke" people demonstrating staggering levels of ignorance. Disturbing fetishists displaying their dressy-up perversions and glorying in the spotlight - furries, sissy-girls, you name it, it's all there, waving to children. (Please stop taking children to Pride. It's not family friendly.)

I am so done with all this gender bullshit. It's all about Men's Sexual Rights and woe betide any woman who speaks up.

This is an excellent article.

Hulo · 07/08/2019 10:36

And ain't that the truth

DpWm You just spurred me on to find out how to archive a web-page. It's now safe from deletion. Smile

Mumminmum · 07/08/2019 18:15

Good. About time someone spoke the truth: Trans ideology is abusive towards women! We have rights too!!

Ritascornershop · 07/08/2019 20:51

That was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I have a lot of concerns about the number of teenage girls transitioning, but that is a whole nother issue. This covered men who wish to be perceived as female really well.

I live in BC, and noticed a number of my friends and acquaintances are friends with Oger on fb. I’d love for them to read this, but I feel that people are so convinced that to question it is to be a horrible, nasty bigot, and that a lot of people’s minds are closed. It’s so important, for women and for the kids who are part of this social contagion, it’s such a relief to begin to see people questioning it.

terfsandwich · 07/08/2019 21:32

Rita, just post a link to this article, saying "Look at what this bigot is claiming! Transgenderism is a men's sexual rights movement!"
We've got to spread the word how we can. So many of us have to publicly pretend to be TRAs. Might as well weaponise it to help people peak.

Trohmaniac · 07/08/2019 21:38

Everyone I talk to IRL are totally gobsmacked when I discuss it and although willing to be kind and use preferred pronouns they do not believe in totally denying reality and science.

This exactly. I work in education (secondary) and we have a handful of trans students (all FtM, which I find extremely interesting in itself - no MtF, why?) and every member of staff that I've spoken to about it has said that they're polite enough to use the preferred pronouns/new name but don't believe that any of those girls are now actually boys or ever likely to become boys.

Everyone I've discussed it with outside work has felt the same. Baffled is the right word - so many people just tiptoeing around this small, vocal minority of people because we all think we're the only one who disagrees until someone else brings it up.

popehilarious · 08/08/2019 12:03

And I assumed that nobody was claiming that transitioning gender literally made a male person female, or a female person male. I was wrong. I was so, so wrong.

I think this is a common sentiment. I would be interested to know if any trans ally existed who ALWAYS believed that transitioning gender literally made you your transitioned sex. It seems to be something that has built up, so accepting that trans people deserve everyday rights then gets pushed to "she is now literally female". I can see people who then nod along with this but is there anyone for whom this was the default position from the start? Hearing of men that wanted to be women, they dress like them and then concluding that, of course, therefore they are women?

BlingLoving · 08/08/2019 12:26

It's a really good article and a few lines really resonated with me - they should be slogans or bumper stickers or something:

"Women, as a population, were no longer defined biologically, stripping us of our power to address the needs and oppressions experienced by women because of their biology." - This is such a tight, neat description of the reality. In the past, a woman could attempt to act like a man, be "one of the lads" etc but ultimately, she was always fighting the fact that she was a biological woman and THIS drove sexism and misogyny.

And I know that sex, except in rare intersex cases, isn’t assigned — it’s observed - I truly love this. We don't assign sex. We look at the genitals and then accept those as proof.

Ritascornershop · 09/08/2019 06:28

Terfsandwich, it’s hard to know how to broach it. I’m beginning to think leafleting from aeroplanes is the only way.

Lamahaha · 09/08/2019 07:11

I can't find the quote again from her Twitter feed, but I loved it, so I'll paraphrase.

"Biology is to transideology what evolution is to creationism."

Lamahaha · 09/08/2019 07:14

OK, I just found it (the quote) again:

Lara Adams-Miller

Biology is to transgender as evolution is to creationist.

It’s not okay to demand that everyone else converts to a new philosophy just because you did.
