Interesting there is a divergence in thinking. Older trans people like India feel they have transed and they are nolonger trans and are now fully the gender/sex they moved to. It's not a popular opinion...

Doesn’t bother me if other people self-ID as ‘cis.’ I can respect their beliefs on gender ID, even if I don’t subscribe to them myself (genderfree here).

So it’s as though an atheist saw a Catholic announcing they are now a Protestant. I’m not in either group so it doesn’t affect me.

2BthatUnnoticed · 06/08/2019 07:32

(Btw I’m not actually an atheist - it’s an analogy. I’m a gender atheist I suppose!)

TimeLady · 06/08/2019 07:40

Do these trans commentators talk about anything other than trans issues? IW was a journalist before transition, who presumably covered subjects other than how to be a man. Surely the way to live a normal new life, to be accepted and respected, is just to get on with what you did before, albeit with a different outer appearance. Or is becoming part of the story themselves now essential? (Rhetorical question really)

PennysPocket · 06/08/2019 08:07

If you share the children 50% why don't you buy her out and move back in to the marital home and she can rent which she would have to do if anyway if you sold the property?

PennysPocket · 06/08/2019 08:08

Oops wrong thread Blush

Juells · 06/08/2019 08:55

Isn't IW just doing the same thing to gay men as TW have done to lesbians?

Juells · 06/08/2019 09:16

Oh hang on, no. That's not what's happening. IW's sexual orientation hasn't altered, so will still be attracted to gay men, and vice versa.

FormerMediocreMale · 06/08/2019 09:20

Juells

But IW is now a 'cis' woman attracted to straight men - she says so, so it must be true.

Some of us live in the real world...

FormerMediocreMale · 06/08/2019 09:22

She wont have any luck trying the cotton ceiling with straight men.

Juells · 06/08/2019 09:25

FormerMediocre - yeah, I see your point. I was thinking that it would be gay men IW would be dating/interested in, but of course the ultimate validation would be sought.

andyoldlabour · 06/08/2019 09:40

"not even possession of a GRC changes a person's natural sex, it merely creates a legally fictional status on a person insofar as certain interactions with UK law are concerned."

Jacky, as we have seen in the AC case, the law has tied itself in knots, because AC's birth certificate stated - Sex - Female.
This is a totally farcical situation.

I'm getting a sense of "I'm more of a woman than you, because of what I went through"

It's like a bad comedy sketch about men being pregnant & giving birth. It's a competition in which each participant has to dial up the experience to outdo the previous one.

But good luck India with explaining to the man or woman on the Clapham omnibus that your preferred partner is a man, but you are definitely not gay. Hmm

Aw shit. Sorry

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 06/08/2019 10:45

I was thinking that it would be gay men IW would be dating/interested in, but of course the ultimate validation would be sought.

IW made it very clear on CBB that IW seeks validation from heterosexual men. The heterosexual men were very clear in not being interested in IW. Probably something to do with them being heterosexual.

Propertyofhood · 06/08/2019 11:02

Well yes, remember India on CBB.

Literally screaming at 80 year old Amanda Barrie for accidentally misgendering India.

But when Ginuwine made it very clear that he would never be interested in India or any transwoman, India just sulked for a bit, but there was definitely no 'LET THIS PENETRATE' towards the men in the house.

I do have a slight soft spot for India some of the time. I like that India doesn't give a shit about toeing the trans party line, even if that is just out of selfishness and narcissism, and it's funny to watch the fall out.

drspouse · 06/08/2019 11:15

I had heard people saying they were "women with a trans history".

I suppose now IW will have to be quiet about trans stuff?

MinnieTheSphinx · 06/08/2019 11:18

"I suppose now IW will have to be quiet about trans stuff?*

More likely she's going to go full-on Debbie.

Juells · 06/08/2019 11:22

Confused

If I saw that I'd assume that it was a woman who briefly flirted with becoming a he/him, then gave up.

Confused
DickKerrLadies · 06/08/2019 11:27

IW's only concern is IW. I don't think India can see anyone else's perspective, on all 'sides' of the debate.

I'm trying to think logically about this, which is obviously difficult, but if sex is a spectrum then surely the logical conclusion to a transition is to reach the other end of the spectrum. And if 'cis' women are at one end of that spectrum, after 'the whole nine yards' (assuming India is implying genital surgery rather than just 'surgery' in general) I can sort of see what India means. I completely disagree, but then I don't believe that sex is a spectrum.

It's almost like words have meanings.

DickKerrLadies · 06/08/2019 11:33

"women with a trans history"

That's because women aren't allowed to call themselves 'trans women', even those who are Stonewall Trans.
