Hi all

I'm spending the next few days with someone who works with Edward Lord on London issues. They are sane but see Ed L as "keen on diversity issues" without having really engaged with the issues.

I would like to help them understand what EL has done - and is there anything that is still to be done??

  1. My understanding - all single sex facilities in City of London are now mixed sex + He fudged survey by discarding 50% of responses. Anything else? And what is state of survey now, re content and impact?
  1. Is anything still not agreed by City of London? ie anywhere where I might have an impact...

Or am I just opening their eyes to what has been done??

Are you not worried this is a bit outing?

TheInebriati · 29/07/2019 12:38

There was no impact assessment made before they made the change.

Also, there were his tweets congratulating Ken Plummer, who openly campaigned to lower the consent age to 4.

This is Ken Plummer;

''Ken Plummer is emeritus professor of sociology at Essex University, where he has an office and teaches courses, the most recent scheduled for last month. “The isolation, secrecy, guilt and anguish of many paedophiles,” he wrote in Perspectives on Paedophilia, “are not intrinsic to the phenomen[on] but are derived from the extreme social repression placed on minorities …

“Paedophiles are told they are the seducers and rapists of children; they know their experiences are often loving and tender ones. They are told that children are pure and innocent, devoid of sexuality; they know both from their own experiences of childhood and from the children they meet that this is not the case.”''

It is worth looking back a bit through EL's CV. He advised the Amateur Swimming Association (or British Swimming - can't remember the difference). They came up with a set of gender neutral proposals that had to be withdrawn for "further consultation". He did not last long at the Football Association. I think he may have been involved in the Girl Guides consultation which took place at the Speakers House and involved Pips Bunce.

The Hampstead Ladies Pond started with a question about beliefs (TWAW etc) which appears to have used to to filter out a hefty set of respondents , which appears to mean that you had more chance of being listened to if you were a US based TRA than a GC woman living in the City or Hampstead. It was also advertised on Twitter not the most obvious place to reach actual users of the pond.

Do an advanced search here, and then sit back and read. And perhaps then google Meg-John Barker his partner. Yes they are keen on equality, but it seems mainly of the white male type. .

Michelleoftheresistance · 29/07/2019 13:11

Yes they are keen on equality, but it seems mainly of the white male type.

This nails it really.

Diversity: interested in furthering the interests and involvement of populations with BAME, disability, women, working class, poverty, LGB - if their 'diversity' is actually about furthering the interests (and in particular the sexual rights) of straight, white, able bodied, affluent and educated males over others (particularly when that furthering negatively affecting BAME, disability, women, working class, LGB etc without noticing or addressing these issues and disadvantages), then 'diversity' isn't really the word they mean.

Jux · 29/07/2019 18:50

Good luck. I suspect that unless you are a straight, white, able bodied, affluent and educated male, then you'll be on a hiding to nothing.

You could mention the inconsistency that EL identifies as nonbinary but belongs to the Freemasons and a couple of City Livery Companies, which is only possible because of having the word 'Male' on EL's birth certificate. All of that will have given a significant leg up to EL's progress up the hierarchy in the Corporation of London.

None of those organisations offers full membership to natal women, not even to transmen.

Don't know about the Livery Companies, but the Freemasons have announced that a Mason who comes out as a transwoman can carry on as a Mason.

www.theguardian.com/football/2014/sep/18/edward-lord-fa-ultimatum-refuse-resign

"The main FA board said Edward Lord, the chairman of the Amateur Swimming Association and a prominent champion of diversity in sport, had been axed because of an “irretrievable breakdown in trust” with the other members of the panel...

In a statement it said that Lord had lost the confidence of all the other board members...

Lord had given a newspaper interview this month in which he was critical of the progress made on inclusion issues, but the FA insisted that his public comments were not the reason for his exclusion from the advisory board.

“After an Inclusion Advisory Board meeting where a full, frank and open discussion took place, it was the unanimous view of every member that they could no longer work with Edward Lord in the spirit of professional respect, trust and confidence,” the FA said. “These are fundamental aspects of how any team of people need to work together.

“It is not about what Edward has stated publicly but a matter and question of conduct and respect for colleagues. The group collectively felt that all trust in Edward, due to his repeated failure to work in the spirit of collaboration, had broken down irretrievably.”

Also it appears he is a LibDem, or at least spoke at the LibDem conference a few years back. Google is a joyous thing.

loveyouradvice · 30/07/2019 20:47

All very interesting stuff - thank you

Any idea WHAT he has promoted re diversity APART from Trans, Gay and Non Bin? ie did he actually do anything about other issues like ethnicity, equality of opportunity etc?

Has he done anything good?

It [the "consultation"] was also advertised on Twitter not the most obvious place to reach actual users of the pond.

Especially as he used terfblocker to make sure 50,000 women couldn't see him sharing the survey.

It's almost as if he didn't want women to complete it.

cardyop · 31/07/2019 06:23

About the survey

https://www.localgov.co.uk/Campaigners-question-validity-of-survey-on-transgender-rights-/47476

"The report said nearly 40,000 people had answered the survey between July and September last year to help the corporation develop a 'gender identity policy' in line with the Equality Act.

But 18,459 were discounted because respondents 'primarily answered the introduction About You section which sought to identify the respondent's stakeholder status'."

Sunkisses · 31/07/2019 08:00

This man is dodgy as fuck. He is an open paedophile supporter (the links are all above). He should not be in any position of influence whatsoever. Tell your work colleague about EL's support for paedophiles. That should be enough. Why are these sickos allowed to operate in plain sight?

Edward Lord and The Freemasons:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/08/01/freemasons-allow-women-members-first-time-joined-men/

HandsOffMyRights · 31/07/2019 08:16

A Twitter row erupted as it emerged that Mr Lord, who identifies as non-binary and asks to be described by the pronoun "they," is a Freemason, an institution that has largely refused to allow women to join its men-only lodges.

Critics noted that Mr Lord previously suggested gender identity was "of complete irrelevance biologically".

One said: "So does this mean you will be campaigning to allow women into the lodges of the Freemasons as well? You know what with all spaces becoming mixed and all?" Mr Lord retaliated: "I take the view that I can best influence change from within."

HandsOffMyRights · 31/07/2019 08:19

He's also on the board of the Leathersellers Company, which funds Mermaids.

Check out this post from a Mumsnet user last September. Edward Lord was at a TRA conference in London and had a couple of things to say...
