Does anyone know anything about the new Welsh gender service?

Just saw this shared and they say they’re engaging with stakeholders, but don’t elaborate much on who beyond All Wales Gender Identity Partnership Board (which I don’t know anything about).

I am hoping this will be sensible and considered support, but know nothing about it and was hoping someone on here might. Especially in light of the current controversy around puberty blockers etc.

I am not one of the knowledgable people on here, and just wanted to draw attention to it. Apologies if there is already a thread, I couldn’t see one.

I know one of the doctors involved. She'll jump on any bandwagon that passes by. If she was 20 years younger she'd be a prime candidate for being trans because she's high-functioning autistic. Out there at Pride for the last few years waving flags and calling lesbians and feminists terfs. Classic liberal third wave feminist — not centred on women at all.

Oh god. That doesn’t sound good. I worry about young autistic women in particular being convinced this is a way to fit in.

I do wonder at (and I quote):
"The Welsh Gender Team will begin a period of engagement in July and August with key stakeholders and the All Wales Gender Identity Partnership Board, to ensure that the service meets the needs of our trans community."

Too late tonight, but tomorrow I shall try to discover who constitutes the Welsh Gender Team (!!! I find that a bit funny... depends how you read it - Is being Welsh an actual gender now Shock ???!!! Sorry!), and the key stakeholders in this, and who are the members of the All Wales Gender Identity Partnership Board.

Oh gawd, our nhs in Wales is so short of money already, what are they thinking. [shocked]

Thanks for that link, juskasking!

Quote from that link:
Minister for Health and Social Services, Vaughan Gething said:

Establishing the new Welsh Gender Service is the first step in enabling people to access services closer to home. We are committed to continue to engage with our stakeholders as the new service evolves.

"Enabling people to access services closer to home." - I have no problem with this, whatsoever.

I would like to know who, exactly are the "stakeholders", here.

Never heard before of www.umbrellacymru.co.uk/

OccasionalKite · 28/07/2019 00:42

Direct quote from:

www.umbrellacymru.co.uk/our-work/support/

We provide support on a wide range of things that don’t relate to gender and sexual diversity, equality or inclusion, but we only provide these to people who don’t identify as straight and cisgender.

Cisgender???!!!

The following sentence on that, is:
Why? Because we know there are many barriers for people with a minority gender or sexual identity, and we are passionate about helping to remove or reduce them wherever possible.

And yet they have the arrogance to label people Cisgender???!!! WTF?

Gingerkittykat · 28/07/2019 01:20

Non cisgender is quicker and easier than typing out all of the different variants of trans/ non binary/ the alphabet soup.

Still offensive though.

Thank you all so much. I didn’t know where to start to find out who the stakeholders are. I really hope they include people who have safeguarding and MH support in mind. If it’s just focused on health then that’s one thing, but it’s all so vague and that makes me think they haven’t included anyone but lobby groups in their stakeholders. I hope I’m wrong

I notice that two speech therapists have been sent to England to be trained to work with trans patients. The last time I read anything about it there was a massive waiting list for people with speech problems resulting from strokes, surgery, accidents and so on. I would be furious to think that resources were being diverted from those patients to a group of men who want to be taught to speak more like 'ladies'.

The names Mark Walker and GP Sophie Quinney come up on the website and a quick google takes you here:

It looks as if Quinney's a pal of Fox and Owl!

Just when I think this crap couldn't make me angrier, what in the hell is the NHS doing funding speech therapists for trans people when parents of autistic children often can't access speech therapy for their kids at all? Gee, since when was a man wanting to sound like a woman an issue for a speech therapist to solve, meanwhile kids with actual communication and speech and language problems are left languishing on huge waiting lists.
The irony, speech therapy could be the difference between an autistic child finding their voice or not. Something tells me trans people need no help finding theirs 😡

I'm so sick of their most oppressed act and of their whining about waiting lists, their claims that no-one else has to wait so long to access support. Try being the parent of an autistic child. Better yet try being an autistic adult and trying desperately to access any kind of help. Then they'd know what waiting was.

Cliques · 28/07/2019 10:48

Fuck. My ASD dd is actually on a (very long) waiting list to see a speech therapist in Wales at the moment. We’ve been told it could take years and this is vital for her now! At the same time I’m terrified someone will tell her she’s not performing femininity right and she will be told she’s trans (rather than a completely normal gender-non-conforming autistic girl).

I wrote to my MP a while ago and he didn’t even bother to reply.
