TW in women's sport - "it won't make any difference..."

I've seen a lot of TRA lobby responses along the lines of 'there are so few transgirls/women that letting them play women's sports won't make any difference...'

Apart from all the examples we've already seen where it is makng a difference, eh? Here's another - demonstrating how letting boys who identify as girls (and are almost certainly not on any sort of meds, have gone through puberty, etc - so are simply boys who say they're girls) will push girls out of their own sports:

So... are they saying that if there were more of them, it WOULD make a difference? 🤔

Can't have it both ways.

Juells · 22/07/2019 10:19

What they're really saying is "It's only women, so it doesn't matter"

Juells · 22/07/2019 10:20

70sWitch - good spot!

DpWm · 22/07/2019 10:25

You only need one of them to completely wreck it for all of the women anyway.

VickyEadie · 22/07/2019 10:34

Correct. I've seen a fair number of TRA comments such as 'How come they're not winning medals at the Olympics, then?' As if it's only the Olympics that counts AND as if it's not about the pushing out of girls and women at every level.

It won’t make any difference...

When Terry Miller and Andraya Yearwood cape first and second in the Massachusetts State Championship 100m they denied:

Two girls of podium places
Two girls of spots in the final
Two girls spots in the semi finals
Two girls spots from their schools who weren’t chosen to go to the state championship

And the same in the 200m. At least.

When Hannah Mouncey played a season of football in the women’s VFL a woman sat on the bench instead. When Mouncey played for Australia in the handball World Cup a woman sat on the bench. It’s likely a woman didn’t get selected for the squad as a result. We will never hear from this woman, her voice won’t be heard.

When Laurel Hubbard won the Pacific Games weightlifting an 18 year old Samoan woman was denied gold in her home games. Another Samoan woman was denied silver in her home games. Another woman was denied bronze. Other women have been denied by Hubbard’s victories in other tournaments over last two years. We will never hear from these women.

It all has a knock on effect. These women matter.

MockerstheFeManist · 22/07/2019 10:45

....maybe the Olympics not happening until next year may be relevant.

Meanwhile, it looks like the worm is turning on drug cheats:

If Horton gets away with it, a precedent will be set.

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/07/2019 10:53

But my MP thinks women should just try harder Hmm
And Labour wonder why they are losing support Angry

ZebrasAreBras · 22/07/2019 10:54

What they mean, is that it won't make a difference to men.

In fact, it's a good thing for men - because men who identify as women can win at women's sport with an unfair physiological advantage.

OhHolyJesus · 22/07/2019 11:00

How come they're not winning medals at the Olympics, then?

The Olympics has only recently changed the restrictions, Tokyo next year will be the first time the whole world will see the impact, and that's only if trans athletes take part.

DpWm · 22/07/2019 11:02

How come they're not winning medals at the Olympics, then?
Because 2020 will be the first Olympics since the rules changed ya dimwits. We'll have to wait and see. I think the world will be shocked.

DpWm · 22/07/2019 11:02

Oops Xpost

OhHolyJesus · 22/07/2019 11:14

Exactly DpWm it's such a weak argument it's not even an argument. You can't say it hasn't changed the Olympics when an Olympics with trans athletes hasn't happened yet.

butteryellow · 22/07/2019 11:36

This.

Men are the real people, we're just supporting actors running around behind the scenes.

Question on savewomenssports.com/our-stories sums it up:

Tell is what you think about XY athletes in female sports

Not against transwomen - as the TRAs would have it. I'm for fairness to girls and women.

XY athletes - be they MtF trans or XY DSD athletes have had a male puberty, whatever their current T levels or lady feelz. A male puberty and the physical advantages conferred by it cannot be obliterated.

VickyEadie · 22/07/2019 12:22

The advantages conferred by being born male don't start at puberty - someone pointed me at statistics for world best performances by children from age FIVE - here is an example for 800m:

World best times, 800m, by age:
5: Boys = 2.54.8 Girls = 3.04.60

  1. 2.32.36 2.43.65
  2. 2.26.74 2.36.67
  3. 2.20.40 2.29.01
  4. 2.19.43 2.16.39

picklemepopcorn · 22/07/2019 13:39

If there are so few of them, and it won't make any difference, how come we are seeing so many on the podium I wonder? Are they statistically more likely to do well, perhaps?

happydappy2 · 22/07/2019 13:51

Trans women have the choice to live their life as they see fit, but they cannot deny the reality that they are Male so should compete in that category or campaign to introduce a third option. I think the sports issue is about to peak trans a lot more people.

TemporaryPermanent · 22/07/2019 14:09

I don't want trans people to stop doing sport. I really hope that knowing they have to compete by sex category might cause some people to put off medicalising their sex dysphoria and seeking other types of suport for it so they can enjoy competing. More gender non conforming and out gay sportspeople should help there.

frazzled1 · 22/07/2019 14:17

Just wow Vicky, had no idea! Shock

EverylittleAlps · 22/07/2019 14:28

I dont understand what the endpoint of this is.

If a trans woman competes, and wins, it has moved the entire cohort of women down one. Two trans athletes, two. Eventually women will stop winning ever, then stop competing, and then stop watching.

Womens sport will effectively be ended. The world will be offered mens sport and mens sport performed by people who say they aren't men.

NiceRadFem · 22/07/2019 14:46

I have a past in athletics. Trans women in sport was my peak trans moment.

Michelleoftheresistance · 22/07/2019 18:46

Only women so it doesn't matter

This. Yet more bullshit spouted by males who don't believe women are fully human, or have the same worth, aspirations and rights that they do.

The same males who tell lesbians that it's their job to learn to like penis and to put aside selfish belief that sex is about their pleasure and their choices, and seek the virtue of sex first and foremost being about their responsibility to meet the needs of men.

The 8th century is back and it's wearing lipstick.

allmywhat · 22/07/2019 19:02

Well, the number of trans prisoners has apparently gone up by a factor of 10 in one year.

The number of trans kids has exploded by something insane like 1500% over the course of the last few years.

Something tells me we are also going to see an exponential growth in the number of MtF athletes.
