"BREAKING: A detailed report by Hacked Off published today finds that transphobic discrimination in the press has reached fever-pitch levels and the so-called ‘regulator,’ IPSO @IpsoNews, is failing to protect vulnerable communities. Read here: t.co/2h4VrATPaO"

I like the title: McCarthyism in Bad Wigs and Fishnets: The denigration, abuse, and misrepresentation of the movement for transgender equality in the press

I'm in strong agreement with the following but the report writers and I differ in our interpretation of many of the nouns.

There is a serious problem with transphobia and disinformation related to transgender people and proposed legal reforms in the non-broadcast media. Independent regulation must be established to replace IPSO, to ensure that the public are protected, and a debate can be had based on facts, and without abuse, on any proposed reforms.

The irony, eh?!

^sarcasm

Let's not forget that Hacked Off were supportive of Helen Belcher on her groundless complaint to IPSO against Janice Turner

Who are those unamed authors fo the report, with the diverse genders, I wonder?

Janice on the case

. @HelenCBelcher Hi Helen, Could you please state whether or not you were involved in writing the Hacked Off report. t.co/XK1VhfrK5f

Because it would be quite an odd scenario if, having categorically lost a very serious IPSO complaint against me, (t.co/oMTXcPQkN4) you then wrote a report denouncing me and IPSO.

Lo! Observe how many shits I give about people who want an establishment controlled press, calling opinions they don't like a special boogeyword that can mean anything at all.

...

SunsetBeetch · 18/07/2019 17:53

Because I'd like to know whether, having tried to stop me being shortlisted for a journalism award and taking me to IPSO for a column in which I defended myself, you then were involved in an anonymous report denouncing me.

Because, if that is true, it looks a tiny bit like harassment.

I love Janice. I love how she won't be bullied by them.

Haha Janice is taking no shit from them.

Lumene · 18/07/2019 18:32

Janice is a hero.

Popchyk · 18/07/2019 18:35

They are trying to frame the Women and Equalities Committee Transgender Enquiry Report as some sort of sacrosanct source of irrefutable knowledge. Grin

And everybody knows that it was trans lobby bollocks.

It's not 2016 now, Helen. People don't believe that shit any more. Get over it.

Calling for press accountability under an anonymous article.

Jesus. They are a laughing stock.

ChattyLion · 18/07/2019 22:48

Janice IS a fucking hero.
Thank you to her for looking at this.
Press freedom to let in sunlight and fresh air and to inform open public debate in a straightforward, factual way, is absolutely key in a healthy society.

arranbubonicplague · 19/07/2019 09:21

I've lost a lot of respect for Hacked Off while aware that they have done some good work.

That report is embarrassing - the critique and analysis has the intellectual level of Adrian Mole 13 3/4 and is summed by for the most part by saying, "The writers are mean and we disagree but they're wrong".

SophoclesTheFox · 19/07/2019 12:28

Janice is fabulous, and I’m creased up at that exchange between her, Sarah Ditum and Julie Bindel. Imagine being at a dinner party with the three of them!

What is it that public are to be protected from? Biology? Dangerous women’s opinions?

someone seriously complained about a tweet from Janice to Ipso and the hacking inquiry asking who wrote this report

when a person thinks that is an offence, you begin to see where the accusations of 'literal violence' come from, and how those articles got interpreted as transphobic

it turns out that questions are transphobic

Hacked Off report of transphobia in the media *eye roll*

”to ensure that the public are protected”

The public?

FFS they are utterly deluded.

Thank you Janice, a continuing voice of sanity.
