I find this a bit weird. It's the form for summer reading challenge. No other data capture around minority groups or access issues. I find it a bit creepy and a stealth way to collect data. Thoughts?

@Fraggling that's what I thought

So this is aimed at young primary age kids who may well decide if they can choose to be pirates/dragons/dogs/unicorns... The data is going to be pretty useless. It's certainly not going to help encourage more boys to read though is it Confused

@FormerMediocreMale I also have an issue that it isn't proper profiling. If they are going to record anything at all it should be carriers to accessing the scheme. This does nothing toward that.

I agree never Useful information on which demographics are accessing the scheme and those that are not is not being recorded at all with this form. They will have nothing to take away and say x demographic was under represented but those of x demographic that did access the scheme did y so maybe we need to promote more y to engage more x

@FormerMediocreMale exactly, so this is data capture either to pander to tras or for another reason

It matters because how the hell do you address poor reading rates in boys, if girls who are more likely to read but have been told that because they are tomboyish they must be boys?!?

@NotAnotherJaffaCake it's full in misandry

“Sometimes D likes to identify as a ‘Poochy Pup’ as signified by sticking his tongue out, panting and attempting to lick inappropriate items. He had also been known to identify as his older brother and as a mummy. It is best to play along with this to avoid a tantrum.”

I filled out this exact same form yesterday registering my 4 yr old onto the Library summer reading challenge.
We're in London. I presume it's a national thing.

I just ticked "boy" for him and left it but should have done something more (in a protest kind of way).

It's a form that obviously has to filled in with the help of parents/carers. What primary school child knows the email of their parents, their post code or even the home telephone number.

'Another way' just wouldn't compute with most primary school children but the adult filling the form in would understand it.

Just a very strange way to collect data on this particular challenge.
