Could a woman identifying as man join the masons?

Just wondering could a female who presents themselves in a stereotypical feminine way but identifies as a man join the freemasons?

apparently not

TeamUnicorn · 12/07/2019 12:25

No. Anything that exclusively benefits men is purely for males.

So a male is a male and a female is anyone who wants to be.

S1naidSucks · 12/07/2019 12:26

Nope. They’ve already said no, however if a mason wants to identify as trans, then they’re permitted to stay. Sounds awfully transphobic to me. It’s almost as if they don’t really believe that people can change sex, but are willing to let men call themselves whatever they like.

BeyondDangerousTshirts · 12/07/2019 12:28

Nope, they accept men/males only, regardless of outfit choice or plastic surgery/hormones/whatever.
Hope my point is clear there, without saying anything deletable...

G5000 · 12/07/2019 12:29

Ha. Of course it doesn't work that way. It's only women who must be inclusive.
Remember what happened when women declared they are men and jumped into men only pond? They were swiftly removed by the police. Men are allowed to use women-only ponds there, as long as they state they are women. www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/female-campaigners-selfidentify-as-men-to-infiltrate-male-only-pool-at-hampstead-heath-a3850556.html

When men do the same in women-only spaces, we are not even allowed to raise an eyebrow, if we don't want to be accused of hate crimes.

yiskasha · 12/07/2019 12:29

No it's only female spaces and places that are being taken over.

HPFA · 12/07/2019 13:36

Edward Lord, who campaigns against women-only spaces is a member of the Masons.

timeforakinderworld · 12/07/2019 13:44

No for the same reason that transmen can't inherit titles - it only works when males are getting the upper hand!

Cheby · 12/07/2019 14:11

I thought they did accept transmen, as well as allowing trans women to stay after transition?

AlessandraAsteriti · 12/07/2019 14:30

Also all male clubs like the Garrick have no such policy. I asked. But then, we all know trans stuff is for males destroying women rights, dont we?

TufVoyaging · 12/07/2019 14:54

Gentlemen clubs and the masons work through referral and voting anyway. They could say they were inclusive ,but it is very unlikely that someone wouldn't "black ball" the female candidate, especially as the process if anonymous and no reason has to be given. It is to keep out people who are "not our sort".

EverardDigby · 12/07/2019 14:56

How does that work then? Do they not have to treat a transman with a GRC as male? Surely they world have a hard time explaining why excluding then was proportionate or whatever the wording is in the EA. Or is it just that no one has tested it?

Bezalelle · 12/07/2019 16:14

I've said this before and I'll say it again. The minute any legislation passes regarding self-ID, I plan to switch gender, apply to a load of male-only organisations, and bring law suits against the establishments that turn me away.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/07/2019 16:47

But will you go for a back, sack and crack then attempt to sue the poor therapist who cries ‘but madam you have no sack to wax!’

Boom25 · 12/07/2019 16:56

oooh that's an idea!

Boom25 · 12/07/2019 16:58

I wonder about Eton as well, could a transman get in?

Teddybear45 · 12/07/2019 17:02

OP you are deliberately misquoting the NY Times article. The masons will accept men if they used to be women and will accept women who used to live as men. They won’t however allow women to join as women.

Bowlofbabelfish · 12/07/2019 19:10

The masons will accept men if they used to be women and will accept women who used to live as men. They won’t however allow women to join as women.

How many women are members then
I wonder? I suspect none.

Frankly, the sooner all this starts annoying and inconveniencing men then the sooner it will stop.

jhiouioholg · 12/07/2019 19:25

@Teddybear45

I didn't see this article.

I've finally registered and new to posting, and had to comment as
I've just read Edward Lord site...and it makes me want to cry in frustration!!
Apparently he's going to spend his later years pondering the fact that he's a Mason and they won't admit women (to the main branch) but feels he's all about equality and inclusiveness, and so how to marry the 2 aspects together???!

I'm so angry and frustrated, how on earth can it be ok to 'talk the talk but not walk the walk' of equality??!! ( I know it happens all the time, but this is so in the face!!)

sigh!

chillz · 12/07/2019 20:43

There is infiltration let's say. It isn't the fortress it once was

HearMeSnore · 12/07/2019 20:45

Good for you Bezalelle, I hope I'll summon the courage to do the same.

I'm really hoping for a group of female soprano singers to identify as men and apply to join a male-voice choir. The shitstorm from that would be vastly entertaining to witness.
