So says Buzzfeed.

www.buzzfeednews.com/article/shannonkeating/megan-rapinoe-womens-world-cup-finals-champions

Links to this as proof. Except, isn't this about women with DSD not transwomen? www.womenssportsfoundation.org/media-center/statements-and-media-responses/media-response-july-10-2018/

As a lesbian and an athlete, I'd be surprised is she thought twaw.

I wonder what Rapinoe who say if, in the final, her team of women had been up against a team of men identifying as women, and then beaten by them?

LadySoccerTime · 10/07/2019 14:22

The comment about Rapinoe being about "queer" power when Rapinoe very clearly uses the word "gays" and then links to a petition about women with naturally high testosterone (assume this was about caster semenya) and says it's about trans women. Is BF just making up shit now to fit it's narrative?

The success of Women in Sport is PUBLIC now and this is causing a stir. The big upping of outspoken lesbians is causing outrage amongst the bepenised!

The very recent win by the US football team has highlighted the appalling pay gap and caused an even bigger stir given the dismal performance by the men's team, even SnoopDog is calling for equal pay rightly pointing out that these women are the best in the world at their job. America is struggling with the default MAN setting being over ridden in football so any effort to discredit shouty lesbians is going to be attempted for the next little while Grin

nauticant · 10/07/2019 14:35

From a few years' exposure to Buzzfeed I've come to the view that they will adopt the facts of their news reports to confirm with their worldview so I don't bother going there any more.

nauticant · 10/07/2019 14:36

Grrr, adapt not adopt.

nauticant · 10/07/2019 14:37

And conform not confirm. I despair.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/07/2019 14:38

Wait a minute there- didn’t I see the other day a piece about the woman’s US footie team getting beaten in a match by a team of 15 year old lads??

OvaHere · 10/07/2019 14:42

Rapinoe is 34 isn't she?

She won't have too many professional years left and will be leaving behind an illustrious career where she was at her pinnacle of achievement.

It's younger, upcoming women she is throwing under the bus with this 'inclusive' attitude.

SpeakUpXXWomen · 10/07/2019 14:45

that was to Lord obvs

MockerstheFeManist · 10/07/2019 14:50

Possibly lost in translation for a self-confessed sports ignoramous author, but in the USA "Athlete" means participant in any sport, and so the letter to the IAAF about the Semenya case was possibly misunderstood on more than one level.

The nauseating arrogance of the US media over this win is striking. Rapinoe won the player of the tournament for this world cup, but she is not "The best player in the world" as CNN stated this morning. That is still Ada Hegerberg.

Yes a decent u15 boys team can beat a women's international team and fairly convincingly too. A year or so into puberty and males are off on their own. Sex really does matter. I'd expect the gap to close though as training and skill levels continue to improve in the women's game.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/07/2019 15:24

But the young males who slip on a girls sports kit! A gym slip is like kryptonite to males dontcha know? No advantage at all.

MockerstheFeManist · 10/07/2019 15:34

....Oh I dunno.

The bloke on the porridge oats box seems to manage.

Not sure what they identify as, though.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/07/2019 15:54

Oi - as a Scot that’s pretty rude!

FermatsTheorem · 10/07/2019 16:02

A few years back Farnborough (I think it was) had a good FA cup run and managed one of those classic third round upsets. They weren't even nationwide conference, they were in one of the regional leagues. So about 6 divisions below the top flight.

As a reward their manager spent part of the TV money on a week long training camp in Spain. The then England women's team happened to be out there at the same time, so they had a friendly. Farnborough, 6 divisions below the top flight, beat the England women's team.

SpeakUpXXWomen · 10/07/2019 20:46

Oi - as a Scot that’s pretty rude!

Yup! Never cast aspersion on a West Coast man in his lovely kilt, full formal is a smoking outfit that works wonders Grin

Having met bloke off porridge oats box down pub, or Rory as he is better known, I suspect any question on self id would be met rightly by a raised eyebrow and end of conversation.

BluebonicPlague · 11/07/2019 00:26

I thought bloke off porridge oats box died a while back?

Here is the equality battle currently underway.

I hope they win it because the ongoing mess of equal pay in every career is shameful worldwide and women deserve better.

CassianAndor · 11/07/2019 11:13

women with naturally high testosterone (assume this was about caster semenya)

Caster Semanya is a male with a DSD (a DSD that only occurs in males). I know this isn't the main point you're making but I think this needs to be pointed out each and every time.

CS has been cheating women out of medals for 10 years.

SpeakUpXXWomen · 11/07/2019 12:14

www.letsrun.com/news/2019/05/what-no-one-is-telling-you-about-caster-semenya-she-has-xy-chromosomes/

People consider the word woman to mean absent of Y chromosome and so have been thrown by the lack of actual reported facts on DSD athletes, the brilliant IAAF have held firm for women's rights regardless.

Sure, if by held firm for women’s rights you include allowing XY people (males) with XY DSDs (male DSDs) with testes and at least partial androgen sensitivity to be eligible in the “female classification”. Their own regulations are here:

www.iaaf.org/about-iaaf/documents/rules-regulations

The IAAF is not without blame for allowing men to dominate women’s sports.
