I thought this was a great article - very reasonable and great to have focus on lesbians in particular in a newspaper 'Pride Special'

Brilliant article - thanks.

There’s also this article: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/my-transgender-journey-being-a-butch-woman-wasnt-me-9gzm39hwq

Does anyone have a share token for either of them, as I’ve used my 2 free articles this week?

Nappyvalley15 · 07/07/2019 09:29

Powerful and important article - thank you Julie and thanks to the Times for publishing it.

BingBongSong · 07/07/2019 09:29

That's a great article - thank you, Julie.

AncientLights · 07/07/2019 10:24

"My Transgender Journey ...' still using 'assigned female at birth'. Grrr.

Anyone have a share token for Julie Bindel's article?
I read the other one. Every time I click on one of those I think 'Maybe this time it'll make sense' but it never does. I'm glad Ethan's happy. I just don't know what being male could possibly mean other than being biologically male. DH doesn't either.

Anyone have a share token for Julie Bindel's article?

Being male is not connected to having masculine interests or being masculine in my attitudes and behaviours. It’s just who I am and how I feel on the inside.

Yup, clear as mud. Also, promoting mermaids? Really?

I liked the article but found it interesting that Fiona Shaw was described as butch. I've never seen her that way, she's just a woman with short hair who wears trousers. I guess I'd fall under the category of butch if that's the benchmark.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 08/07/2019 10:13

Also very surprised to see Fiona Shaw presented as a butch in Killing Eve - she has sexual relationships with at least two men in the show. She wears trousers and has short hair, but that’s just her personal style, isn’t it?

Mermoose · 08/07/2019 12:36

I don't know what butch is any more. I would never have thought that Katie Herzog is butch. It seems like what's 'normal' for women has moved to uber feminine?

I do find the whole idea of being butch and femme strange. Sometimes I wear trousers and a shirt, sometimes I wear a skirt (seldom, but sometimes it's the most comfortable thing to wear - like if it's raining, or very hot). Sometimes I have my hair long and sometimes I cut it really short (just short, not styled - I hate going to hairdressers so I just lop it off if it's annoying me). I borrow my husband's clothes and he sometimes borrows mine. How I happen to be dressed isn't an important part of my identity. Although when one of the women explained about the fact that she liked to be treated how men are treated, I did understand that.
