Apologies for those who don’t have access to the times higher ed supplement but a book called ‘is gender fluid?’ by Sally Hines has been reviewed by another academic. She basically says it’s a load of rubbish. Predictably, the woke squad is now urging everyone to buy the ‘fantastic’ and ‘groundbreaking’ book. I am glad that someone has the guts to stand up to her- she has done so much to totally undo the good work that feminists have done to try to help women and girls.

Do Leeds University not care? It's certainly put DD and me off when we start our visits next year, as she's likely to do a degree in sociology or a similar field, and wants to go to a northern university.

I do miss the ‘have you been drinking?’ replies

Here we are LordProf. Especially for you via Dr Louise Moody' a very clever take:

You need to CHECK YOUR CIS-HET PRIVILEGE, when YOUR [sic] a Prof THEN you can comment. Ha.

SEX IS A STATE OF MIND, I'm right, your wrong and if you argue I'll brand you hateful and transphobic 💄👠👄💖 You'll be asking for evidence next. NAZIS.

Hey, loser haters, don't forget I'm also all about the BANTZ..... here's a funny moving image thing (popular with the young cool types) to show you I LITERALLY DON'T CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL LOSERS

Smirk

Sally is the gift that keeps giving.

Jog22 · 02/07/2019 10:33

Can someone post the TES review please?

IdrisElbasLeftTesticle · 02/07/2019 10:43

I did my phd in the the department where SH works, about a decade ago. At the time she was responsible for coordinating the postgrad teachers, so she was sort of my line manager for a while. I don’t think much of her, professionally or otherwise.

I used to have terrible imposter syndrome because I just couldn’t ‘get’ postmodern theory at all. Found so many required texts impossibly hard to read and assumed I was intellectually deficient. With the benefit of hindsight and having been out of academia for some time I now just think it’s because they are mainly bollocks Grin

ZebrasAreBras · 02/07/2019 10:56

HA HA. Sally Hines is a joke, not an academic. I still haven't stopped laughing at the female skeleton debacle Grin Laughing, or crying - hard to tell which when reading Hines's bizarre ramblings.

littlbrowndog · 02/07/2019 11:00

Yeah I rember when sally said women had no backbones befor the enlightenment.
We were just like wee slugs slipping our way through life

I rember when sally said women had no backbones befor the enlightenment

That is plain daft. There is a big world out there and women's role's vary. What about Iceland 1,000 years ago when women kept the farm running whilst Vikings went out raiding. Although it was still a patriarchy, the Icelandic sagas suggest that some women enjoyed significant status and power. Ditto, I spend some time living in a village in SE Asia, where older women were looked up to as sources of advice, experience and wisdom. They understood traditional medicine and all sorts of other things, and were in a position to lay down the law within their community.

I am sure that similar and different models exist elsewhere. Sally sounds such a dimwit.

Well done for not falling for the Emperor's new clothes!

Apollo440 · 02/07/2019 11:33

Kat, the diary was priceless. Could go straight into Private Eye!

"Before the enlightenment the female skeleton didn't exist"

( Grin )

RoyalCorgi · 02/07/2019 11:53

What is the pomo obsession with the Enlightenment all about? Ellis rent-a-gob Cashmore also said something implying that the demarcation of sexes didn't exist before the Enlightenment.

ZebrasAreBras · 02/07/2019 12:08

I've no idea, RoyalCorgi. It's a wonder we ever managed to evolve or reproduce as a species at all Wink

Mermoose · 02/07/2019 12:11

RoyalCorgi it's like this:
Sex binary = Enlightenment idea
Enlightenment = 'white male Eurocentric privilege'
You if you believe in sex binary = siding with white male Eurocentrism
You = Nazi

MadamBatty · 02/07/2019 12:12

WAit if the female skeleton didn’t exist were women like a puddle on the floor?

KatvonHostileExtremist · 02/07/2019 12:15

I'm just waiting for dear Sally to claim the book was a MASSIVE JOKE just to rile the evil T*rfs.

Then say she was just doing it because she collects twitter reactions as important data for analyses.

That's her normal pattern. Bless her. She is literally my favourite.

RoyalCorgi · 02/07/2019 12:16

Thanks, Mermoose - that's very helpful. You can tell it's true, 'cos all the countries that didn't go through the Enlightenment don't have any concept of a sex binary.

AlwaysComingHome · 02/07/2019 12:24

The idea that non-Europeans didn’t know how to reproduce until imperialists showed them how is, frankly, racist.

How is it that every polytheistic religion managed to have gods and goddesses of fertility? How is it that Greek gods managed to defend upon females when they wanted to create offspring? How is is that even the Christian God knew that he had to impregnate Mary and not Joseph?

Mermoose · 02/07/2019 12:30

How is is that even the Christian God knew that he had to impregnate Mary and not Joseph
Uh, because God is on the Christian right.

Melroses · 02/07/2019 12:34

Lucky guess?

Goosefoot · 02/07/2019 12:35

There is a whole group of pop academics that are just totally devoted to the Enlightenment, and I suspect that people like Hines are particularly focusing on it as a way to reject those people. So, Stephen Pinker, Jordan Peterson, Richard Dawkins, etc. They in turn hate deconstructionism. They tend to have a rather shallow view of the Enlightenment themselves though.
