Pretty much what the heart of the meeting was about!

DanaBarrett · 13/06/2019 23:20

It’s a bit odd tbh, some attendees did try to engage with the protesters but they got the response ‘we’re not allowed’. Now ‘I don’t want to’ or similar I would have understood, but not ALLOWED?? There’s something else at play here.

Manderleyagain · 13/06/2019 23:34

Who didn't allow them? Very strange...

MuddlingMackem · 13/06/2019 23:35

Not allowed by whom? It was an open meeting, wasn't it? If they really wanted to attend all they had to do was buy a ticket like any attendee. ::shrug::

DanaBarrett · 13/06/2019 23:41

I know, right? Apparently someone offered to pay for tickets but they weren’t allowed to go in. 🤷‍♀️ I got a leaflet off them, I’ll take a photo in the morning.

@DanaBarrett Shock

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 02:36

Wow weird. Some of the encouragement to protest was from a local Lib Dem diversity officer

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 08:14

One of the women attending did spend a good hour chatting to / interviewing the protesters during the talk (thank you!) partially to establish why they were protesting and where their info was from and live streamed on fb; I'm going watch and report back.

The first interviewee is a trans man who appears to be very confused about what makes a man/ woman and believes their biology is completely altered due to the hormones they're taking and therefore women's health rights don't apply to them. Such a shame they couldn't have had a chat to the detransitioned woman who actually attended the meeting.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 10:31

The film is going to hopefully be available to watch on YouTube. It's an extremely good insight into the motivations and beliefs of the protesters and how they don't appear to understand what Prog Moore is saying nor what feminists are saying. There are a number of trans men who actually talk about exactly what feminists are saying. A trans woman who simply doesn't see the disparity between their own journey and those of young trans men.

After Prof Moore's talk there were some questions. There was an excellent question/ comment from a very concerned mentor of young people at a local college about the numbers of young people who have autism and identify as trans.

She also commented that they're being 'trained' at the college by a particular trans person (Tara Hewitt I think, would need to check) who is very forceful about staff accepting and promoting the affirmation of the ideology with the young people they educate.

I was at the meeting last night, it was excellent - thank you to everyone who organised it and to all who spoke - and so informative. The protesters were noisy but ultimately unthreatening.

It felt liberating, subversive and infuriating all at once that women gathering to speak about womanhood and threats to our hard-won rights is being painted as a hate crime by the painfully woke.

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 14/06/2019 10:39

That last sentence doesn't exactly make sense but I hope you know what I mean - liberating to talk with like-minded women and infuriating something as comparatively innocuous as that is viewed as hateful/transphobic.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 10:46

Absolutely tit!

I'm infuriated right now as still
Ploughing through the film of the protesters; a transwoman hits the nail - briefly - square on the head describing the difference between sex and gender and how trans women don't have a uterus to be controlled by the government and that trans men still suffer from the oppression due to their sex. Which the trans man earlier didn't get.

If only they'd all come inside!

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 10:49

It's at 34 minutes. If only they realised we are on the same side!

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 10:50

Brilliant name TheTitOfTheIceberg btw...!

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 14/06/2019 11:44

Can someone post a link to the video please?

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 11:46

So it won't be on YouTube as one person understandably felt uneasy; which is a shame as it was incredibly interesting to hear their POV, and clear that they did t understand Michele Moore's research or sources. There is clearly an approach of blanket bigot without critical thinking.

Accusations of not willing to debate and yet not willing to debate.

I'm wondering if there was confusion about permission / entry to the meeting as a ticket had to be purchased.

TheTitOfTheIceberg · 14/06/2019 11:59

So it won't be on YouTube as one person understandably felt uneasy

Do you mean the debate with the protesters won't be on YT?

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 12:05

It seems by the end one of the two most interesting and eloquent protestors wasn't keen on it being published to YouTube.

A number of loud people shouted over them a great deal which was a shame but it was an interesting discussion.

It was public but now not as I agree that perhaps the protesters do not wish to be filmed publicly. The trans woman did comment they'd had physical attacks and was their first protest.

It is a shame as there was a good discussion about woman's reproductive rights and what that actually means, including trans men (which 2 out of the 3 the trans men didn't get) interspersed with clarity and cognitive dissonance in good measure.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/06/2019 12:09

Could it be transcribed or made audio only?

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/06/2019 12:25

Possibly

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/06/2019 10:37

Just sharing the story of a woman who attended the meeting who recently de transitioned as it's a really important story to be heard.
