It has a segment on the No Outsiders school programme and interviewing the man who designed it.

I have to go out so will watch on catch-up later.

interviewing the man who designed it.

No Outsiders was a big research project to bring queer theory into schools. It wasn't the work of one man. I wonder why they want us to believe that.

The labour mp was pathetic in providing a counter response. Really poor.

FloralBunting · 22/05/2019 11:50

Entirely framing every objection as religiously backward homophobia. Derbyshire asking the Muslim guest if he thought the No Outsiders proponent was immoral because he was gay. Then asking AM what he thought about being called immoral.

Basically the gutter level divisive bullshit I've come to expect and loathe from the BBC, and The Victoria Derbyshire Programne in particular.

NellieEllie · 22/05/2019 11:55

Labour MP fairly useless. Not actually coming out and saying what the “T” stuff is, just hinting about it.

misscockerspaniel · 22/05/2019 12:10

There is a big difference between teaching tolerance and indoctrination. I don't know much about the No Outsiders programme other than what I have read online (and it covers various types of discrimination eg; age and disability not just LGB and T rights) and I suspect that the mermaids you decide whether to be a boy or a girl/if you are a tomboy then you are a boy/sex doesn't matter approach is far, far more harmful.

Procrastinator2 · 22/05/2019 12:23

misscockerpaniel, I think it does come out with Mermaids type stuff. This is a good article on the Transgender Trend web-site. www.transgendertrend.com/no-outsiders-queering-primary-classroom/

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/05/2019 12:25

Typical BBC then?

LangCleg · 22/05/2019 12:26

Did Vic do her special sad face? What about the extra special head tilt? Was there any special sad music?

Melroses · 22/05/2019 13:12

The BBC likes a good sacrificial Christian to throw into the ring whenever they 'discuss' LGBT issues. It looks like Muslims now tick that box for them.

It is a shame they never do anything to unpick the issues. There might be more understanding then. They seem to like everything to be adversarial and black and white and I don't think it makes good television at all. It is done to death. People switch off and get fed up.

OldCrone · 22/05/2019 15:23

Just been thinking about this a bit more. If you say this is the work of one gay man, and it's about acceptance of people who are different from yourself, you're going to get more support than if you say you want to 'queer the curriculum', and get all sorts of weird stuff into the primary classroom. Andrew Moffat is just the Trojan Horse.

FloralBunting · 22/05/2019 15:26

Andrew Moffat is just the Trojan Horse.

Which is precisely why Derbyshire attempted to make it a personal attack on him, rather than any of the other questions being calmly asked.

OldCrone · 22/05/2019 15:36

I haven't watched the programme, but I'm a bit surprised at this. I thought he was seen as the 'acceptable' face of No Outsiders, and all the other participants were letting him be the public face of the project, rather than waving their queer theory stuff in everyone's faces, knowing that it would be far less acceptable to the public.

I thought they were letting Moffat get his acceptance, diversity, anti-bullying stuff into schools, so that they then had a way in for their 'queering the classroom' agenda. And I was assuming the POMO-addled BBC was in on this. But maybe that's too much of a conspiracy theory.

OldCrone · 22/05/2019 15:38

Sorry, Floral, I think I misunderstood your post. I read it as a personal attack coming from Derbyshire. Do you mean that the Muslim parents are personally attacking him?

JackyHolyoake · 22/05/2019 15:50

Has anyone asked Mr Moffatt why he specifically chose to work in a school with 90+% Muslim cohort, [given his history of working for years on the £500K funded No Outsiders research project plus the fact that his previous post brought him into conflict with a similar cohort in another Birmingham school]?

Gone2far · 22/05/2019 16:07

Who was the mp?

FloralBunting · 22/05/2019 16:43

OldCrone, yes, sorry I wasn't clear - I meant that the questioning on the Derbyshire programme was focused almost entirely on making it look like a personal attack on AM's sexual orientation. In fact Victoria Derbyshire asked the Muslim parent on the sofa if he thought that AM was immoral because he was gay, and then, after the flustered answer, asked AM what he thought about the other guest thinking he was immoral because he was gay.
It was zeroed in on the single personality of AM, and framed exclusively on him being gay. Anyone not familiar with any other concerns will not have the slightest inclination that there is any other objection to the content of No Outsiders and will obviously want to distance themselves from what is presented as a personal homophobic against AM.

LangCleg · 22/05/2019 16:48

Just to remind everyone of the early statements parents were making. Gender identity theory and misrepresentation of Islamic teaching.

Of course, that wouldn't fit with Vic's special sad voice or special head tilt, would it?

Indeed. What is being ignored by the media covering this is the fact that parents are also objecting to their children in those schools being indoctrinated with the idea that a boy can change to be a girl and a girl can change to be a boy.

Melrose I saw a particularly disgusting example of that yesterday, when I caught part of a news segment the BBC were doing on the school protest. A female reporter was "interviewing" one of the Muslim mothers - I put interviewing in quotes because the reporter was practically screaming at the woman! She kept firing questions but never let the mother answer properly, just talked right over her. It was clear that the poor Muslim lady didn't have a good grasp of English and was so flustered anyway that she was unable to get more than two words out at a time.

I had to rush out then, so I wasn't able to get the name of the reporter - if I had I would certainly have complained.

Melroses · 23/05/2019 13:01

That is awful. Can you find it on I-player?

We are supposed to show some consideration and understanding for others. I couldn't get the right words out on a good day in that situation even if I was expecting it, so why would the reporter expect it from this lady?

It favours pre-prepared soundbites (preferably the right ones Sad)

AlwaysComingHome · 23/05/2019 13:15

It’s interesting that the BBC, Guardian, etc. have decided this is the issue on which they’d stop unquestioningly defending Islam.

On homophobia, misogyny, FGM, terrorism, censorship, grooming gangs, etc. to criticise Islam at all was Islamophobic.
