Just sitting down to have a look through this and thought I’d share it on here to invite discussion

Interesting idea making access to abortion a pre-condition for EU membership, first thing I spotted.

WEP are pro-PV (voted for at conference), I think only standing candidates in London however.

6 references to gender
No references to sex (other than in 'sexual')

That tells me a fair bit of what I need to know.

It all sounds really good. But AFAIK they will happily define men as women which kind of renders it all meaningless.

Genderfreelass · 09/05/2019 13:25

As far as I'm aware they don't know the meaning of the word "woman" so the name of the party is a bit of a red herring.

From the full manifesto:

Wherever children grow up, they are likely to be bombarded from birth by gender stereotypes, cultural messages that normalise the sexualisation and objectification of women, homophobia and transphobia. Negotiating healthy and respectful relationships while navigating a world riven with inequality is fraught with difficulty. WE will make sure that all children are taught relationships and sex education that is LGBT-inclusive and that dismantles gendered expectations.

Hmm. Sounds suspiciously like "let's adopt No Outsiders and its like" to me. Where's the stuff about boundaries, privacy and dignity? How does one simultaneously teach children the dismantling of gendered expectations while being T inclusive?

Agree, Lang.

LangCleg · 09/05/2019 14:35

Also, guess how many times it's mentioned that sex is an EA protected characteristic in the full document?

Oh. That would be a big fat zero.

How does one simultaneously teach children the dismantling of gendered expectations while being T inclusive?

Honestly, trivially easily:

  • Challenge stereotypes about sexed clothing, toys etc.
  • Teach kids to tolerate others who are different.
  • Teach factual, age appropriate, sex ed.

At some point (prob early teens) a discussion that a few people feel the need to have surgery and live as the opposite sex would fit in.

Most schools are doing just that, the problems are:

  1. We don't do nearly enough challenging stereotypes to counter the onslaught from popular culture.
  1. The Genderist stuff is coming in to schools. I doubt it's being taught by anyone but nutters, because it contradicts the national curriculum for sex ed; but it's hitting safeguarding.
