Quote:
I'm grateful to have been invited to speak at Parliament in Glasgow about the impact of gender identity legislation and ideology on women and girls. Trans activists claim they want a 'better conversation', but clearly what they are demanding is NO CONVERSATION at all. THAT is the embarrassment. -

(oh no - this is really embarrassing as it is the second time Meghan not Megan Blush )

Where did you read that stumbledin?
Great to see her being received in Parliament. Meghan is brilliant.

HirplesWithHaggis · 03/05/2019 01:10

It's Rhiannon Spear complaining about it on Twitter. She's an SNP councillor on Glasgow City Council. And the Scottish Parliament isn't in Glasgow, so Ms Murphy should check her travel and accommodation arrangements. Grin

stumbledin · 03/05/2019 01:11

Hello bettybeans

She posted it on facebook but realise the graphic image of the invite is actually from someone on twitter trying to get people to tweet their MSPs and get invitation withdrawn!!

There’s also a date scheduled for Friday 24th May in Glasgow by For Women Scotland - she’s obviously doing a bit of a tour!

LegoToast · 03/05/2019 02:20

Yay!

She will still be doing her May 21st gig in London though? Yes?

NeurotrashWarrior · 03/05/2019 07:15

Wow that's brilliant!

Popchyk · 03/05/2019 09:47

This is great news.

Mumfun · 03/05/2019 09:59

I am so pleased that she is speaking in Scotland and networking with the woman MSPs . Lets hope she can add to the change in hearts and minds already happening there

Michelleoftheresistance · 03/05/2019 10:04

Just glanced through Rhiannon Spear's Twitter. Isn't it interesting how women who want to speak about the dangers to women and girls rights are purity policed to the nth degree and their backgrounds searched for any perceived 'extremism' of view or speech (such as maintaining their right to believe that someone born a man will always be a man) that may invalidate their right to share an opinion? While at the same time representatives from the trans lobby are welcomed and attended to by the govt regardless of background, such as, for example, a criminal record of sexual violence against women, alleged incidents under investigation of sexually offending behaviour, supporting and calling for violence against women, that kind of thing? Again, women's speech and opinions are being held as more damaging and more dangerous than actual threatened and carried out physical harm against women.

The double standards scream the misogyny quite openly, it's baffling that apparently competent adults in positions of public trust on public payrolls are supporting it.

Genderfreelass · 03/05/2019 10:20

This is such fantastic news. Will email my MSP and let her know how pleased I am to see different sides of the arguement, especially from someone living in wokest of woke land.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 03/05/2019 10:29

Yes, Michelle. Interesting indeed. I also see quite a lot of people using Meghan's Twitter ban as evidence of her being an 'extremist'. So Cherry's recent meeting on that point extra important.

Genderfreelass · 03/05/2019 10:49

I agree Michelle the double standards are out for all to see.

NO women do not need to accommodate men and will gladly accommodate females regatdless of how they express/present themselves. Men need to learn to accommodate each other regardless of how they express/present themselves. Society needs to fuck of with putting mens shit on women. Men sort yourselves out its not our job to sort you out.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 03/05/2019 11:22

Society needs to fuck of with putting mens shit on women. Men sort yourselves out its not our job to sort you out.

Very much yes. I saw a great quote yesterday that was along the lines of "male violence is not a woman's problem, it is a man's problem that affects women". Really think women need to start internalising that.

earthmother64 · 03/05/2019 11:31

Amazing! Does anybody know how to find out about booking a place?

EweSurname · 03/05/2019 13:45

If you're an interested stakeholder, Joan McAlpine might issue an invite!

Of course - the communication leaked by someone on twitter was internal, but I had planned to invite interested stakeholders and you are very welcome. DM me your email and I will send out an invitation.

earthmother64

If you look at the image of the invite being shared (for hostile reasons) it says to rsvp Joan McAlpine. What isnt clear is whether this is an open meeting or an invite to MSPs that has been leaked to create trouble. pbs.twimg.com/media/D5lPRYDXkAASTv3.jpg

HirplesWithHaggis - looks like someone has contacted MM and she has edited her facebook post to say Edinburgh - so hopefully she will be there and not wandering round Glasgow!

Excellent news. Grin

Freespeecher · 03/05/2019 17:19

Pleasantly surprised at this. I tend to assume that Scottish politics in general is woker than woke.

RuffleCrow · 03/05/2019 17:23

Fantastic news. I hope she has a top notch security team though. I suspect our TRAs are more physically violent than the no less obnoxious Canadian lot. Plus she's blooming gorgeous which only pisses them off more.

CharlieParley · 03/05/2019 18:31

earthmother64 this is likely a fairly small meeting and invite only. But if you do work in women's services or something relevant to the issue, you can probably email Joan McAlpine for an invite (bearing in mind that space will be limited).

However, Meghan will also be giving a talk about this at the For Women Scotland public meeting in Glasgow on 24 May. Tickets are available here, but I wouldn't wait too long as the last meeting sold out and I expect this one will, too. I got my ticket already and would be delighted to see some Mumsnetters there, too.

SlipperyLizard · 04/05/2019 09:10

Fiona Robertson of the SNP tweeted this about MM’s visit. She’s rightly getting called out for it.

Riiiight. So I’d like to know what debate this handmaidenly Rhiannon Spear has ever initiated or even allowed to happen on this topic?

Ms Spear said: “Inviting Meghan Murphy to our parliament is stoking a fire. If you want to have a civil conversation about trans identities this is not how you go about it.

“It’s embarrassing. We must do better. It’s not helpful to furthering any conversation on trans/women’s rights.

“I’m sad to see the return to the narrative of ‘men identifying as women’ and scaremongering regarding gender specific spaces. I’m also sad we have elected politicians wilfully ignoring the advice of service providers who have been working in the industry for decades.”

Finally, as a woman expected to use the normal old unadapted women’s toilets and showers at my workplace with men (..because they ‘identify as’ women..) your accusation of ‘scaremongering’ about single-sex spaces is deeply offensive.

When will man-pleasing politicians (of both sexesHmm) understand that it’s really not a vote-winner to be constantly undermining women’s privacy, dignity and safety? It’s overt, shameful misogyny.

Also anyone who is grateful to Joan McAlpine for sticking her neck out for women time after time- there’s a thread where we’re letting her know about that Smile
