What shall I call myself?

HR are asking all of us to state the gender we identify with 🤦‍♂️

I have decided I am going to go with a kind of fluid approach whereby I will identify with whichever identity proves to be most personally beneficial to me at any given time 😊

What title shall I give my newfound gender? Gender manipulative? Gender egocentric? Can you help me come up with a suitable name to satisfy the admin-droids (or does the category already genuinely exist?!)

I'm not a fan of labels (I'm not a jar) but when I was recently asked what my gender is I replied...

"TechnoPunkHippie"

And was met with much derision and insistence that it isn't a gender, and I said "oh really? Do you actually know the list of infinite genders by heart? Double check that for me I'll talk to you when you're done."

Some days I just can't be bothered to engage knowing I'm going to be called 'cis woman' whatever I say. If I see an opening I jump in for discourse otherwise I put up my shield and soldier on. I can't waste energy on every gender-romanced individual I encounter.

It's crazy to me that it's considered okay to ask people what their gender is at work and shouldn't be relevant. To me that's like asking political affiliation, sexual orientation, or religion - all inappropriate topics at work (unless specifically related and relevant to the job/industry).

nellodee · 01/05/2019 22:09

Advantagender?

InionEile · 01/05/2019 22:10

Yes, I agree with the suggestion of 'Male - now pay me 30% more and put me on the Board, please. Dedicated parking space with my confusingly female name on it would be nice too, thanks'.

newmumwithquestions · 01/05/2019 22:15

How about ’pangender’: the feeling of having every gender; this is considered problematic by some communities and thus has been used as the concept of relating in some way to all genders as opposed to containing every gender identity; only applies to genders within one’s own culture.

So you can then flick between whatever you feel like?

Cismyfatarse1 · 01/05/2019 22:17

Criticalgender?

Erythronium · 01/05/2019 22:24

Gender resistant.

It's something you can pick and choose after all. Pick that one.

Rollercoasteryears · 01/05/2019 22:28

Somebody please tell me that Tumblr list is satirical? I can't tell any more...

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 01/05/2019 22:37

this is considered problematic by some communities

only applies to genders within one’s own culture.

Sounds like someone's afraid of having their identity appropriated - so sad to see such panphobic gatekeeping within The Community

Italiangreyhound · 01/05/2019 22:54

"Cassgender– Feeling as if the very concept of gender is unimportant to you."

ageofshitlords.com/list-of-all-tumblr-genders-so-far

Thank you to the internet for adding immeasurably to my life.

FemaleAndLearning · 01/05/2019 23:37

So many on that list!
This one looks suitable:
Perigender: identifying with a gender but not as a gender
I don't even know what that means? Is it like a double negative?
Though I did like vapour gender too - smoky tendril or something.
Not liking the definitions of female and male on that list!

nocoolnamesleft · 02/05/2019 00:44

I think I might be cynigender - cynical about the entire concept of gender which is clearly a load of patriarchal bullshit designed to keep women down.

Oh, hang on. That isn't on there.

Now I feel triggered.

CharlieParley · 02/05/2019 01:12

This is complete and utter madness. I would be very tempted to strike it through and write in atheist.

Gender ideology is a quasi-religious belief system that posits the existence of a dis-embodied but sexed consciousness that may find itself inhabiting an opposite-sex body. By virtue of taking possession of this opposite-sex body this now embodied consciousness has transformed the whole to match its own sex, hence making TWAW possible.

That, in metaphysical terms, is gender ideology aka the born-in-the-wrong-body belief.

Of course this does nothing to help the OP with taking advantage of this gender nonsense that has gripped her employer. I'd be tempted to identify as a man who identifies as a woman. You get the male privilege and the special trans status. And probably trouble for taking the piss.

sashh · 02/05/2019 02:19

Dear HR,

why are you asking for me to identify with a social construct that is harmful to all of society but more so to people with the sex female?

As a person with the sex female I have rights under the equality act and this feels like you are trying to remove the protections that act provides.

ILuvBirdsEye · 02/05/2019 06:38

Gender ideology is a quasi-religious belief system that posits the existence of a dis-embodied but sexed consciousness that may find itself inhabiting an opposite-sex body. By virtue of taking possession of this opposite-sex body this now embodied consciousness has transformed the whole to match its own sex, hence making TWAW possible.

And this is oposite of what my religion says - the body is sexed or gendered but the consciousness is not. Only 1 kind of consciousness.

I would rather reject the gender than pick one.

SlipperyLizard · 02/05/2019 07:21

Perigender sounds like the gender equivalent of “I love you but I’m not in love with you”.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority will for the first time this year be asking solicitors in England and Wales “Which gender do you identify with”. Only four answers “Man, Woman, Other preferred description or Prefer not to say”. I’m hoping there will be a free text box for “Other preferred description”

They will not be recording sex, only whether your gender identity differs from your registered sex at birth (at least they don’t say “assigned”!).

Throwing away the interests of female solicitors (who experience sex-based discrimination at work), to pander to a quasi-religious belief system. Oh, and ignoring the law.

ImGenderfree · 02/05/2019 07:30

Ring gender - one gender to rule all other genders.

ILuvBirdsEye · 02/05/2019 07:51

Ring gender that's a good one!

Whatisthisfuckery · 02/05/2019 08:31

I think someone has already suggested identifying as a transwoman. Then you get to be both male and a real woman, rather than just an unimportant cis woman. Basically you can demand whatever the fuck you like because brave and stunning. You can come up with whatever outlandish justification you like or none if you prefer, after all who are they to question your identity? Plus I’m just dying for someone to do this to see if they get challenged. If they’re subscribing to gender ideology then they have to accept it, otherwise they’re policing your gender and that’s transphobic.

ChattyLion · 02/05/2019 09:23

WTF SlipperyLizard they are doing what? I think that needs it’s own thread. If solicitors can’t get this sorted out the rest of us are fucked.

OP I would go with the conscientious objection/narrative approach where you say gender is a harmful construct and ask them to explain why they need this and to explain if they are no longer collecting information about sex. (Which I really hope this is not an alternative to).

FemaleAndLearning · 02/05/2019 10:00

I feel like a Cutie Mark Crusader from My Little Pony trying to help you get your unique cutie mark!

Justhadathought · 02/05/2019 21:46

Genderfluid or Genderfree would probably be best - as they are included in Stonewall's list of gender identities.

Trousering · 03/05/2019 02:05

Fortunately Scotland have seen sense and have only included gender identity as a voluntary question in the census and sex remains mandatory.

Organisations that are imposing Stonewall identification politics on employees should take note. Their stupidity in being led by the nose on this is very visible.

Gizmo79 · 03/05/2019 02:26

I am going with. Pangender. It covers everything!

darjeelingdarling · 03/05/2019 03:12

I would write gendercritical if it was me

tiedy · 03/05/2019 03:53

This one should work for you

Aerogender: a gender that is influenced by your surroundings

Based on your surroundings and situation you will be able to choose the gender that will be most personally beneficial to you at any given time Wink
