Re: defamation

DH & I listened with interest and both commented that what came across loud and clear is how MN have their users interests at heart.

Also of note that MN did not feel the post was abusive or defamatory and that they followed all the correct procedure. The drama teacher with a drink problem was a perfect illustration.

The law seems to offer a very reasonable solution in terms giving the poster a chance to have the post taken down.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 25/04/2019 16:54

Aww Rowan you were fab.

Clear points well made. Team Mumsnet 😍

AlwaysComingHome · 25/04/2019 17:15

What was the insect thing?

LangCleg · 25/04/2019 17:29

Well done Rowan. Thanks for making the vital point about women needing anonymity to get advice about abusive relationships or issues with their kids, etc.

Datun · 25/04/2019 17:51

RowanMumsnet, you were excellent.

Even the bare bones of the issue tells a story, without spin or side. The fact that this is a rare occurrence, that the poster in question refused to have their post deleted and freely offered their details, That you didn't consider it defamatory, and yet the complainant went to the trouble of getting a court order, and your wonderful air of authority making it all seem a little tedious and unnecessary. Especially in light of the reason for anonymity being the real life issues of abusive relationships and domestic violence.

The facts speak for themselves. As always.

really interesting segment, thanks for flagging it up

1MillionSelfiesTakenByMyKids · 25/04/2019 18:55

Seen a bit of bragging about this court order so I'm pleased I'll be able to hear MN's take oin uit once I've got the baby down

nicenewdusters · 25/04/2019 19:08

Rowan - you made the case so well. I think your phrase "reputation management" summed up the situation perfectly.

That post is so poignant. You're interested in what's going down, you want to find out about it, but you have to sort your baby first.

It's a little microcosm which demonstrates the issues.

(I hope he/she has a wonderfully, cosy, dreamless sleep until 9 am!).

Ereshkigal · 25/04/2019 19:49

Well done Rowan Thanks

Also dying to know what the insect thing was! Grin

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 25/04/2019 19:55

Well done Rowan. Flowers I appreciated your clear defence of the need for posters to be able to comment and seek advice anonymously.

I was also a little bit pleased, that SH was referred to as a Transgender Activist and not as a Lawyer.

HollowTalk · 25/04/2019 19:56

I agree - Rowan, you were fantastic.

AlunWynsKnee · 25/04/2019 19:56

Somehow I heard the insect thing and missed Rowan Confused. I was working so may been on calls.
The insect thing was about them being used in food. The last flourish was about eating a scorpion.

Whatisthisfuckery · 25/04/2019 20:13

That was excellent RowanMumsnet (flowers) (wine)

Whatisthisfuckery · 25/04/2019 20:14

Doh, my attempted trick for circumventing the inaccessible emojis failed. Please @MNHQ, get them labelled properly for screen reader users.

GrumpyGran8 · 25/04/2019 21:01

Whatisthisfuckery You need to put single square brackets around them, like this: Biscuit. You were using curved brackets (parenthesis).

1MillionSelfiesTakenByMyKids · 25/04/2019 21:53

Datun and then the 7 year old was being a cheeky wee fucker so I got distracted and forgot. Oh well. Will listen tomorrow Smile
