"Gender" or "Sex" on your local council's Equality statement?

Mine is "gender".

Surely this is illegal?

Is anyone's correct?

Ours does have sex.

We are a backwater though. Don't think the Stonewall Advance Guard has reached us yet.

It seems to gender at my lo’s school. Trying to get up the nerve to question them about it. (Currently got naughty mummy marks for accidentally missing parents evening).

They aren’t going by the equality act. It’s not gender identity for a start, and class isn’t a protected characteristic. It seems as if they are going beyond the equality act, and that’s ok as long as you are actually fulfilling the act as well - which the two gender ones don’t. Complain.

I rang my local council about something similar , as they had gender as a protected characteristic, but not sex. Before I emailed the person I was directed to I went back to their list to get a screen shot and it had been changed from having just 'Gender' to having 'Sex (gender)' so I have not pursued it.

Gender on mine, but also gender reassignment, not gender identity. I need to contact them to get it corrected. Is there advice on how to word the communication anywhere?

Surrey has both sex and gender reassignment as protected characteristics. It also quotes extensively from the Equalities Act 2010.

Oddly my council do say sex apart from their school section where it’s gender...

Mine has sex (and gender reassignment).

Mine had something about gender, a couple of tweets later & they'd changed it to include sex. Worth challenging IMO.

Mine has sex and gender so I wrote to them using the WPUK template.

No response until I said I would contact every councillor and my MP as it was illegal.

They have since written back to say they will correct the error and that it was an 'accident'.

Ours have sex but our local councillors and politicians all parrot TWAW so its meaningless.
Its like watching a bunch of destructive children break their own toys.

Challenge them, challenge them on every tiny 'mistake'. They must not be allowed to get away with ANY misrepresentation and misinterpretation.

Under the Equality Act 2010 we need to have in place policies which ensure we don’t discriminate against groups with protected characteristics. These characteristics are: age; disability; gender reassignment; marriage and civil partnership; pregnancy and maternity; race; religion or belief; sex; and sexual orientation.

Mine is gender. It also includes self id as a protected characteristic. No mention of sex anywhere.
Also includes any percieved discrimination over trans identity as a hate crime.

Thankfully sex & gender reassignment

West Devon and Devon County have 'sex (gender) and 'gender reassignment (gender identity) listed on theirs.

I've written letters to each of them, pointing out the inaccurate and misleading info and asking them to correct them.

Very satisfying!

Remember to send all relies from councils etc regarding this subject to WPUK as they are collating responses in a spreadsheet which they will share.
