Be careful Mordaunt - your disingenuity is showing.

Fresh on the heels of telling women to put up and shut up, comes this absolute corker of a comment. I don't know how she looks herself in the mirror each day:

“Everyone should have control over their own bodies and futures. That means every girl or woman should have the information they need and freedom to choose what is right for them,” Mordaunt told the event, organised by Women Deliver, a global advocacy group for women’s rights. We should recognise that gender equality is one of the great human rights issues of our time.”

(I am also side-eyeing "Women Deliver" as they asked her to appear, presumably in full awareness of her history of putting men first, second and third? womendeliver.org/our-work/)

Think she means sex equality.
Or perhaps not.

buzzbobbly · 09/04/2019 14:56

I think she means whatever her scriptwriter wrote down and she unthinkingly spouted off to suit the audience.

According to Mordaunt ‘Woman’ is a category that includes Men, and gender inequality is based on feelings not facts.

So a statement that entirely ignores sex based rights for females. No change there.

"every girl or woman should have the information they need and freedom to choose what is right for them"

Unless they choose to access single sex space of course..

From the Guardian OP
“Everyone should have control over their own bodies and futures. That means every girl or woman should have the information they need and freedom to choose what is right for them,” Mordaunt told the event, organised by Women Deliver, a global advocacy group for women’s rights.

“We should recognise that gender equality is one of the great human rights issues of our time.”

In June, 7,000 world leaders, government officials, civil society activists, business leaders and foundations from 165 countries will attend the fifth Women Deliver conference in Vancouver to accelerate progress on achieving gender equality.

That will be an interesting event given issues in Vancouver with regards defining women/girls Hmm

buzzbobbly · 09/04/2019 15:50

I didn't even spot that bit R0wan Sad
I expect Oger will be in attendance then.

I think I might contact Women Deliver to ask them some questions...

I wonder who the ‘civil society activists’ will be. The kind of activists who try to shut down women’s rape crisis centres and who attack support services for women?

littlbrowndog · 09/04/2019 15:57

Mordaunt still taking money for not doing her job

Mordaunt meant to represent women and girls but so far not been able to tell women what a woman actually is

Adult human female mordaunt. That’s what they are.

theOtherPamAyres · 09/04/2019 16:06

Until Penny Mordaunt can answer the question: What is a woman?
she is unsuited to the role of Woman & Equalities Minister.

It’s really difficult to take seriously an MP who appeared in a reality tv diving competition. I just don’t think she’s that intelligent.

HumberElla · 09/04/2019 16:33

That competition massively upped her public profile. She is very keen on using PR and self publicity to further her career I believe.
