New panel discussion: the Medical Harms of Hormonal and Surgical Interventions for Gender Dysphoric Children

This took place at the Heritage Foundation last week. I haven't had time to watch yet, but Brandon Showalter, who has been covering these issues for the Christian Post, included this jaw-dropping highlight in his article about it:

Laidlaw and his colleagues used FOIA requests to obtain more information about Olson-Kennedy's study at Children's Hospital Los Angeles and found that in 2017 they lowered the minimum age for cross-sex hormones from 13 to 8.

"Imagine giving 8-year-old girls testosterone," Laidlaw said. "They are in 3rd or 4th grade. This is unbelievable. But this is going on."

Olson-Kennedy, the US doctor running the clinic prescribing cross-sex hormones to children as young as 8, is the person discussed in this thread about her current project at Bristol University:

Public lecture April 4th, if anyone's in the area...

She was one of the speakers at the trans health youth conference in bristol last week as well. Along with Webberley (who I'm pretty sure is still suspended). Hardly a line up to inspire confidence. The heritage foundation seem pretty set of chasing this though which is brilliant. Giving CSH to a 13 year old is horrific, but 8 is mind boggling.

It seems like some madness has seized them. This isn’t just about making money. These particular medics are illogical fanatics. I just don’t understand why.

”Olson-Kennedy is doing a 5-year study, for which she has received a $5.7 million National Institutes of Health research grant,”

And frightening sums of money for research by a doctor so biased that she will almost certainly brush any results she doesn’t like under the carpet.

I spoke once to someone at the animal testing lab where they tested thalidomide. It caused birth deformities in rats. The producer brushed it under the carpet on the grounds “it wasn’t being created for pregnant women.” Then it was promoted to that group “off-label”.

These people learn nothing from history, but continue to ignore evidence and science to push their greedy agenda.

I am encouraged to see that at least one Representative, Fred Deutsch of South Dakota, tweeted that he would watch this panel. I suspect the honorable Mr. Deutsch and I would not agree on much else, politically, but we need all the support we can get from elected officials to stand up to this insane child experimentation here in the States (and around the world).

It's very hard to understand. I think they must genuinely believe in the tenets of the gender faith: that despite no objective test to detect it, there exists a gendered soul in each of us, and this soul can be born into the wrong body. From this perspective they believe they are genuinely helping people by intervening medically as early as possible. Their confirmation bias leads them to dismiss objections and evidence that doesn't fit their faith as irrelevant or false. Truly scary stuff.

I finished watching the panel; it was a good, powerful discussion of the junk science/no science underpinning these treatments, and also of the pressure/hounding/doxxing/career-ruining transactivists have meted out to physicians and academics whose work undermines any aspect of the genderist faith.

Speakers were Elaine, a mother of a medically-transed child; Michael Laidlaw, an endocrinologist who has been a vocal opponent of medicalization of gender dysphoria; Marian Rutigliano, an emergency physician; and Walt Heyer, a de-transitioned man who runs a website for detransitioners.
