This is progress, surely?

Interesting. There was nothing like this six months ago.

I wonder how many of us are keeping an eye out for a party we might actually want to vote for if there were a general election; and whether any of the parties will consider our votes worth taking into consideration? It may still be too soon for unashamedly GC policies but I feel that things are shifting at an increasing rate now.

Peter Garbut has handled himself beautifully against the tra as far as I can tell.
Great.

PrettyAmazingGrace · 01/04/2019 22:44

If he stopped using 'cis', I'd be even more optimistic.

The Green Party has an up to date political programme document on its website:

Improving Trans Rights

Trans people are subject to ingrained prejudice; at school, in work, in society and in the media. The Green Party affirms that trans men are men, trans women are women and that non-binary genders exist and are valid.

We will tackle prejudice against trans people, strengthening hate crime legislation and improving public education on the issue.

We will take practical steps to make life easier for trans people, updating the Gender Recognition Act to allow trans youth and non-binary people to get legal recognition through self-declaration.

That's what the Green Party stand for.

Oh my goodness his tweets are so mild! And he's still getting grief. Good that he's being supported.

He sounds like a very sensible man, I like his take on this. It's possible to say very little and still make it very clear that you understand the issue perfectly.

PrettyAmazingGrace · 02/04/2019 08:02

Thanks theOtherPamAyres, it's obviously still trans chanting at party level, but he does sound like a rational person saying rational comments in public, even when challenged, which gives me hope.

Thanks for sharing, EweSurname.

That rather aggressive person is claiming that we, MN, are doxxing many transwomen. Gained sooooooo much traction too!

Sorry, that was intenedd for the Joan thread Blush

Green Party member of House of Lords is also rebutting claims of transphobia, although it is not related to Peter Garbut

Blimey, the "check your privilege" / I was ignorant then I learned Tweets from that second link are patronising, as if you disagree because you haven't considered it enough rather than you just have a different viewpoint. Honestly.

Mumminmum · 02/04/2019 22:07

for once a politician who gets it.

Socrates11 · 03/04/2019 08:56

Not sure it's much progress but nevertheless good to see.

Bea Campbell has been unwavering in her support for gender critical greens and has continued to write some excellent pieces.

Good to see this (very mild) criticism of the TRAs from a Green politician. He's of course right to insist that supporting trans people and accepting all the thought-terminating cliches of radical transgenderism aren't the same thing, and he puts it clearly and respectfully.

I have a good friend in the Green Party. He's stayed in, despite the position they've taken, and continues to argue for sense from within the party - he thinks they'll come round. I haven't been so sure, but this article makes me think he might be right.
