PJ Proby, 80 years old, admits to wanting to date 12,13,14 year olds

I can’t believe he has openly come out in an interview and said that the reason he is single is because dating the people he wants to date would end up with him going to jail.

“I won't marry a girl I can't raise from the age of 12, 13 or 14," he says.

”I like that they're young and fresh-looking and don't come with baggage – nobody's messed with their heart and broken it.

'They're still in school so I can have a hand in their education and make sure their grades are all right, make sure the way they think about religion is all right, and what is and isn't

“I never dated young girls; I married every one I went out with,” he adds

He says: “The last lady in my life was Elizabeth Conway in 1997. She was 13 when I met her. I don’t think there’ll be another because it’s against the law

Sick

HollowTalk · 28/03/2019 12:12

That is sickening.

TheCraicDealer · 28/03/2019 12:14

But he says he’d make an exception for Lucy Worsley, the married 45-year old presenter of BBC history shows.

I'm sure Lucy is delighted. Hmm

BlooperReel · 28/03/2019 12:18

So he is openly admitting a sexual desire for children? Vile. Let's hope he pops his clogs soon so the danger he poses is eliminated.

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 28/03/2019 12:49

There are plenty of men who have been quite open about their wish to take a young girl and shape her to be their ideal wife. It goes back to Rousseau's Emile and Sophie.

Alan Clark, Thatcher's favourite, fell for a 14 year old girl named Jane and married her at 16. He was 30. They stayed married until his death 41 years later, despite his infidelities. She indicated in interviews that she saw no way of leaving him - what else was there for a woman like her, with no education or career of her own.

Laurie Lee, Cider with Rosie, knew Catherine Francesca Polge from her babyhood and married her at 18. He was 36. There's a complicated semi-incestuous story behind that: he fell for several of the bohemian Bloomsbury Garman sisters in different ways; one bore him a daughter and one bore him a wife.

Bunny Garnett witnessed Vanessa Bell give birth to Angelica, and mused about marrying "it" when "it" turned 18. In the end he waited till she was in her early 20s and he was 50.

Does anyone know how to access current statistics on marriages, to examine them by age of bride and groom? (And by all means for same-sex spouses as well.)

This is going to shock people.
In 24 US states children under the age of 16 can be married, and over the past 15 years over 200,000 minors got married. In Tennessee in 2001, girls as young as 10 were getting married until the law changed in 2017 to a minimum age of 17.

PalatineUvula · 28/03/2019 13:00

Hmm a lot of men of his age were doing this in the 1970/1980s

47 yo Bill Wyman & 13yo Mandy Smith

Donovan who sang 'I'm just mad about fourteen year old girls'

Lori Maddox (14) with David Bowie, Jimmy Page

R Kelly

Jerry Lee Lewis and his 13 year old cousin

Elvis & 14 yo Priscilla

Iggy Pop & 13 yo Sable Starr (and her 13 yo sister)

Chuck Berry with a 14yo

TheFrontHoleIsConnectedToThe · 28/03/2019 13:15

“I was raised in Texas and usually girls did marry by 12.”

Um I call bullshit. That's why Jerry Lewis was condemned so widely when he married his 13 year old wife. As above underage marriage did sometimes happen. Usually when a girl got pregnant to her teenage boyfriend... (So both children will be legally recognised as part of the underage statistic) and occasionally, shamefully to hide abuse. I remember a particularly horrible story about a woman in Florida. Who then worked to change the law herself. But it was never the norm to be married by the age of 12 and he can try and make it seem normal to make himself feel like he's not a paedophile but we call all see him.

Could that be because Lucy (whom I admire in many ways incidentally) channels 1940's school girl so much (bobbed hair with slide clip to the side) and has somewhat child like rhotorism (pronunciation of R's) etc.

And if anyone is interested in a real hero check this out.

That was exactly my thought.

3 years, he stayed married to them. So 19 was his upper limit.

TheFrontHoleIsConnectedToThe · 28/03/2019 13:39

I'm hoping they dumped him when they were able.

T1meForDebate · 28/03/2019 16:30

Hebephilia is apparently the term - it's probably not unusual.

R0wantrees · 28/03/2019 17:03

Didn't he used to deliberately rip open his trousers on stage?

Part of his 'brand'?

OK.
I think the word you're looking for is "groomed" rather than "fell for" the latter phrase alludes to a type of victim blaming.

StephsCaddy · 28/03/2019 17:19

What a creep.

DpWm · 28/03/2019 17:21

No adult man "falls for" a child but a man might fetishize a child and act on that.

failingatlife · 28/03/2019 17:33

Funny how in countries with child marriage it's never 10 or 12 yr old boys getting wed is it?🤔

Dothehappydance · 28/03/2019 20:54

Solihull Council have cancelled his show, have any other venues done the same?

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 29/03/2019 00:23

DpWm Framing AC's involvement as grooming gives a clearer insight, I agree. A man might fetishize a child and act on that - yes it seems likely. (BTW it's Ms Tiggywinkle to you - a trivial point, but language choices matter.)

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 29/03/2019 00:25

failingatlife The United Nations Population Fund has this handy explainer about child marriage:
www.unfpa.org/child-marriage-frequently-asked-questions
While the vast majority of child marriages involve girls, boys can also be married off. UNFPA has found that in all 82 low- and middle-income countries for which there are data, the prevalence of child marriage is significantly lower for males than females. Only 1 in 25 boys (3.8 per cent) marry before they reach age 18, while marriage before age 15 is practically non-existent in boys (0.3 per cent).
