Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

DH having GC conversations at work/gender neutral toilets

DH got all of this fairly quickly, as he is a rather repressed, straight laced Roman Catholic as opposed to a woke leftie bro. Anyway, he has been having conversations with his female roommate who, whilst not particularly feminist, tends to agree with him about how crazy a lot of it is. In their building (big city law firm) they sometimes have external events and for the duration of them, the womens' toilets become gender neutral, whilst the mens' are left alone. His female colleague was saying out loud at a work event how ridiculous this is and that if toilets are changed, then the mens should be changed too. A (female) junior colleague was standing with them and went absolutely apeshit at her for saying that! Anyway, proud of his work Smile

There is no reason at all to make the female areas gender neutral (though I would argue all loos and such ARE 'gender neutral anyway as they are based on sex) and leave the male alone. If anything, it should be the males converted to be unisex for the duration. But even that I would think is a bit unfair on men.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 29/03/2019 09:37

I would also rather use the 'male' loos, than be in the 'female and anyone who wants to be in the female ones'. The 'normal' men will be in the mens, while pervs (NOT saying all trans people are pervs before thats twisted, but of course pervs will be attracted..) in the womens.

I imagine that one of the reasons that it is the female loos that are made gender neutral is that toilets used by women must contain sanitary disposal bins.

I would urge everyone in a workplace that has a 'trans people can use anywhere they feel most comfortable' policy to check with their HR department that the men's contain sanitary disposal bins (or go and take a look). Because the reason most of these policies exist is that no-one knows about them. I should think if men noticed sanitary bins in their toilets they might begin to ask questions.

I don't understand the logic?

Well, to make the mens loos gender neutral (ie available to men and women) or even to be available to men and transmen, they would need to have sanitary bins.

They wouldn't normally. So they would have to be added.

Which would be way more difficult than simply putting a sign over the female loos saying 'gender neutral'.

Surely it’s easier just to slap a few Sanpro bins on the gents to make them hwnget fluid or whatever the term of today is? Women, after all, can have penises can’t they? Hmmmm?

PrinceOfPies · 30/03/2019 20:01

Theyd have to pay the service to clean them. And transmen arent as loud a d annoying about their "rights"
Op why did the junior partner get arsey? Surely she should be happy with both toilets being gender neutral?

It doesn't matter if you see some dick at the urinal as it could be a lady peen. I've been told perfyness is the same as racism.

PrinceOfPies · 30/03/2019 20:03

If ever there were proof that this was all bullshit then gender neutral toilets for the women only was it.

We have no idea the gender of the urinal user. Not all men have penises. Penis havers can pee infront of other gendered people.

Whats good for the goose is good for zirgander
