I don’t like the summing-up here. What woman would have had this ‘explanation’ accepted?

clicky

KatvonfeelzlikeaMAN · 27/03/2019 19:37

Is it wrong that I wish death on men who do that? That poor poor baby.

GabrielleNelson · 27/03/2019 19:38

I hope he rots. Weren't the excuses from the defence barrister? I didn't get the impression that the sentence had been reduced.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 27/03/2019 19:39

Fucking hell! An already fractured skull. No wonder the child cried in his presence. He’d very clearly been abusing her all along. And really, I don’t care that that wasn’t proven, no-one will convince me otherwise.

You'd really have to compare similar cases and go through the sentencing reports to find that out. Otherwise it just comes across as your bias, whilst in fact men and women offenders may be treated equally fairly.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 27/03/2019 22:27

Yeah! In precisely the same way as women who beat the shit out of their boyfriends and leave them on the stairs to die get the same sort if sentences that men do...

... no, wait, pass that by me again!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 27/03/2019 22:32

“There was some issue between him and the child”

  • wow that’s some choice of words!
HopeClearwater · 27/03/2019 23:13

@ILuvBirdsEye thank you
@feelingverylazytoday fair point

I really don’t like the ‘some issue’
How can there be an ‘issue’ between a grown man and a 13 month old?!!

Curious are you suggesting that women never harm babies? I'm afraid that isn't true.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/03/2019 08:54

No feeling that would be ridiculous (and insulting to suggest it).

The OP is about sentencing disparities... and there have been some very high profile cases recently!

You don't know if there's any disparity though, unless you analyse the cases properly. It's easy to have a knee jerk reaction, and to assume there's a sex based bias that affects sentencing, but is this actually true?
It really isn't helpful to keep on repeating preconceptions and beliefs when it comes to child abuse.

I am satisfied you were finding that increasingly frustrating and you were unhappy with the way the mother was dealing with it.

Does sound rather like "well its understandable what you did..."

However the comments about the jury clearing him of the skull fracture sound like the idge wishes he could sentence him for that too so maybe it's the tone of the official statement that is off, not the judge. And 7 years for an injury the baby recovered from, compared to some sentences where the baby has died, doesn't sound like he's gone for the softer sentence.

Obviously not the mothers fault but why on Earth would you leave him with someone who clearly has no bond with her and who the baby clearly doesn't like? And half an hour away for a counselling session? It was a very short one!!
The only person at fault is the one off to jail but I do wish people weren't so keen to trust just anyone with their baby
